PROVIDENCE — In a televised slugfest that remained competitive and contentious until the final bell, Democrat David Cicilline and Republican John Loughlin fought toe-to-toe over Social Security, taxes, jobs, health care and a raft of other issues Tuesday.
The two main candidates vying to succeed Democrat Patrick Kennedy as the congressman in the 1st District argued almost every issue vehemently, frequently trying to talk over each other and occasionally they had to be reined in by moderator Tim White of WPRI.
WOONSOCKET — A city man was in police custody Tuesday evening after allegedly robbing the Sovereign Bank at 11 Social St. of an undetermined amount of cash earlier in the day.
Howard Nightingale, 46, of East School St., was apprehended on a Rhode Island Public Transportation Authority bus at Park Square after police received information he was on the vehicle, Police Lt. Eugene Jalette said Tuesday evening.
“The bus was stopped by North Smithfield police and officers were able to get him off the bus and place him under arrest,” Jalette said.
BLACKSTONE – A Woonsocket man was taken into custody off Farm Street Tuesday after a stand-off with police lasting more than four hours.
Members of a State Police response team set off a “flash bang” device at 6:32 p.m. before rushing Anthony Daignault, 53, in his pick-up truck and taking him into custody without further incident.

Talamini
FRANKLIN- Antonio J. Satch Talamini Jr. 78, a lifelong Franklin resident, died Monday October 18, 2010 at Caritas Norwood Hospital. He was the husband of the late Jane L. (Fressenden) Talamini, who died in 1998.
Born in Franklin, September 28, 1932 a son of the late Antonio J. and Josephine (Bartolomei) Talamini he was raised and educated in Franklin and was a 1952 graduate of Franklin High School. While a student at Franklin High School, Mr. Talamini pitched the first no-hitter in school boy baseball.
Robert R. Holcomb
WOONSOCKET- Robert R. Holcomb, 70, died October 18, 2010, at a Pittsfield, Maine hospital.
He was born February 24, 1940, in Woonsocket, son of Raymond and Rita (Bousquet) Holcomb.
He is survived by his wife, Germaine (Beauchesne) Holcomb of Parkman, Maine; a son, Michael Holcomb of Exeter, Maine; a grandson, Ryan Holcomb and his wife, Samantha of Ohio.
A memorial service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, October 23, 2010, at the Guilford Center Baptist Church, Guilford, Maine, with Pastor Toby Smitherman officiating.
