Clifford A. Larson

WOONSOCKET- Clifford A. Larson, 55, of Greene St., Woonsocket, died Tuesday at Philip Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence with his family by his side. He was the husband of Jeanne L. (Gauvin) Larson.
Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of Sylvia A. (Roark) Larson and the late Frederick Larson. He was a lifelong resident of Woonsocket.
Mr. Larson proudly served his country as a U.S. Navy Corpsman. He was stationed at various posts stateside, at sea, and abroad.
Cliff was a dedicated fan of all New England sports teams and was a Patriots man to the core.

SHOW & TELL - Culture Day focuses on students’ ethnic backgrounds

WOONSOCKET – Sometimes school work can be fun. Especially if that school work is a project that allows students to tell about their family history and ethnic backgrounds.
Ousamequin Martinez, a middle school sixth grader, found that out while working on his cluster’s Culture Day Exhibit at the Villa Nova Street building.
Students could complete an essay as part of their project assignment or work on preparing a meal item that members of their family would have offered in their ethnic homeland.

Woonsocket blanks Cumberland, 14-0

CUMBERLAND - Oswald "Pepe" Torres sensed the ball was coming his way. When it did, the Woonsocket High senior leaped high in the air, caught the ball and ran 70 yards for a touchdown.
Torres interception return at the start of the fourth quarter of Thursday's Thanksgiving Day showdown versus host Cumberland turned into the crucial play of the day as the Villa Novans survived a hard-fought 14-0 verdict over the Clippers at Tucker Field.
The victory is the fourth straight for the Villa Novans, who are back on the field this Tuesday for a Division II semifinal contest at Chariho.

Area fire departments upgrade their equipment

WOONSOCKET – Area EMTs have a new set of tools to assist them in responding to medical emergencies, following a round of training sessions on the latest protocols and standards issued recently by the Department of Health.
The new state guidelines that went into effect Nov. 1 allow trained and certified EMS Cardiac responders to apply higher level life support techniques when assisting patients with difficulty breathing, heart attack and other life-threatening medical conditions, according to Woonsocket Fire Department EMS Coordinator Steven Encarnation.

Northmen stomp Scituate, 44-6

NORTH SMITHFIELD – The North Smithfield football team just keeps raising the bar in this breakout season.
The Northmen rolled to a 44-6 victory over Scituate on Wednesday night, an impressive outing that sets them up for next Tuesday’s Division IV playoff semifinal contest against Exeter/West Greenwich.
“We wanted to finish the regular season on a roll,” Northmen coach Wes Pennington admitted after Wednesday’s game ended. “And I think we did. Now we can finally focus on EWG.”

WOONSOCKET - Constance J. Auclair, 86, of Mendon Road, Woonsocket died Saturday, November 20, 2010 surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of the late Isaac J. Auclair.
Born April 16, 1924 in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Albert J. and Alvonia (Riendeau) Gallant. She was a lifelong resident of Woonsocket and a homemaker.

Angelo Lombardo

NORTH SMITHFIELD- Angelo Lombardo, 87, of Elizabeth Ave., No. Smithfield, died Nov. 22, 2010 at Landmark Medical Center. He was the beloved husband of 65 years to Dorothy May (LeBeau) Lombardo.
Born Sept. 16, 1923 in Woonsocket, a son of the late Natal and Patrina (Randonzo) Lombardo. He was a US Army Veteran of WWII.
Angelo worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Town of North Smithfield Hwy Department for 22 years where he was the organizer and first union president. He also worked for the former Branch River Mill Company for many years.

WOONSOCKET- Marie A. (Boucher) Beaulieu, 92, of Rhodes Ave. died, Friday, November 19, 2010 in the Friendly Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Lucien E. Beaulieu.
Born in Nashua, New Hampshire, daughter of the late Raymond and Evelyn (Raymond) Boucher.
Marie was a Homemaker, and also worked at the Glenark Mills for several years.
She was a former member of the Franco American War Veterans.
She is survived by three sons, Robert Beaulieu, of Florida, Denis Beaulieu,of Woonsocket, and Paul Beaulieu of New Jersey. 13 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
