November 13th
MIDDLETOWN --- Burrillville Highâs bid for a Division III playoff berth came up short on Friday night in its âmust-winâ duel with Middletown High at the Gaudet Middle School.
The host Islanders were able to snuff a two-point conversion by the Broncos that would have tied the score with 30 seconds to play in the contest, and in the process, they were able to hold on for a wild 28-26 victory.
MEMBERS OF THE Woonsocket police and fire departments will participate in a benefit hockey game tonight at the Smithfield Arena. Left to right are Police Lt. Brad Scully, Patrolwoman Jamie Paone, Deputy Fire Chief John Danis and Private Rick LaBreche of the fire department who will play in tonightâs 9:30 p.m. game that will raise money for the American Cancer Society. CENTRAL FALLS --- It was of North Smithfield High head coach Wes Pugh-Pennington's volition to treat his Division IV showdown against Central Falls High on Friday night as a road playoff game.
âOur plan was to keep it simple,â he stated. âWe knew it was their Homecoming, so we wanted to use this as preparation for the playoffs. We knew we'd see a tough C.F. Team come in and play hard, so we wanted to run the ball, mix it up and gain some yardage. But we also wanted to prove that we're North Smithfield, we're no fluke, and that we come to play football.â

Travis L Howard
GLOCESTER- Travis L Howard, 26, a lifelong resident of Glocester, RI passed away Friday, November 5, 2010.
Born in Providence, RI, October 24, 1984, he was the beloved son of Emilie J. (Breault) Howard and Timothy L. Howard.
Travis was a graduate of Ponaganset High School and worked as a courier for local businesses. He had a passion for driving, the outdoors, animals and especially for arts and music. Travis was a gentle, quiet young man who could make his family and friends smile without saying a word.

MacGregor
BLACKSTONE- Ronald A. MacGregor, 83, of Blackstone, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 with family by his side. He was the beloved husband of the late Constance E. (Thompson) MacGregor.
Born in Everett, MA on March 16, 1927, he was the son of the late George A. MacGregor and Marjorie L. (Copp) MacGregor Chick.
CRANSTON --- Defense is the main reason why Lincoln High captured the Division II-North title this year.
And if the Lions plan to seize the Division II state championship on Sunday afternoon, they are going to need the same excellent defense they displayed throughout the season and in Thursday nightâs semifinal-round game against Mount St. Charles Academy.
Junior striker Jillian DeSimone scored her team-high 16th of the season and the Lionsâ defense held off a furious second-half attack by the high-scoring Mounties en route to a 1-0 victory at Cranston Stadium.
LINCOLN --- For the first time in his pro career, Woonsocketâs Joe Gardner will be fighting for a championship belt, and he will try to claim his prize in the six-round co-feature of tonightâs CESâs (Classic Entertainment & Sports, Inc.) âHomecoming Kingâ card at the Twin River Event Center.
And for the first time since coming back to the sport in May after a 7Âœ-year absence, Gardner has had to prepare for a fight without his favorite sparring partner, West Warwickâs Keith Kozlin, giving him some valuable rounds.

CUMBERLAND â When Air National Guard Tech Sgt. Josh Lemois told his father he was giving up a chance to become a local policeman to go to Afghanistan, Bruce Lemois thought he understood.
He had to go.
Why else would Josh turn his back on his dream job?
âHe wants to be a Cumberland police officer,â said Lemois, a member of the Cumberland Town Council. âNot a Warwick police officer. Not Providence. He wants to be a member of his hometown police department.â
For Tolman, Woonsocket, and St. Raphael, the Division IIâs âsecond seasonâ begins this weekend. For Burrillville and East Providence, their pursuit at a second season continues.
Five Blackstone Valley teams will try to extend their respective seasons past Thanksgiving this week when the Division II quarterfinal round takes place and the Division I and III regular seasons ramble down the home stretch.
PROVIDENCE â The gangly young girl who was taller than most of her teachers in eighth grade at North Smithfield Middle School signed a pretty important document on Wednesday morning.
Corinne Coia, now a 6-foot-4 senior at The Lincoln School, signed her letter of intent to attend the University of Rhode Island next year on a full basketball scholarship.
