Stanley E. Hupala

TAMARAC, FL- Stanley E. Hupala of Tamarac, FL. passed away on Dec. 15th at his home. He was the loving husband of the late Francisca (Molinie) Hupala.
Born May 1, 1925 in Woonsocket he was the son of the late Wasyl & Rose (Chomka) Hupala. he resided in Florida for many years Stanley was a Quality Control Engineer in the Electronics industry. He served in US Army during WWII.

Mounties rally past North Smithfield in second half

WOONSOCKET – Scott Colantonio had the look of frustration during the first half of Thursday’s Division III-North encounter with North Smithfield. The Mount St. Charles coach wasn’t upset with the play of his team, but just the fact that the shots simply weren’t falling.
The second half was a different story.
The Mounties shots found the net and their defensive intensity also picked up as they erased a five–point deficit at the break to earn a hard-fought 48-42 victory over the Northmen on their home court. In a well-balanced scoring attack, Pat McCarthy led Mount with 10 points.

Academy stars head to Woonsocket

WOONSOCKET — When the Rhode Island Municipal Police Training Academy graduates its 115th class of recruits today, a few of the stars will be heading for jobs on the Woonsocket Police Department.
Timothy Greene is the valedictorian of the 19-member class. Matthew Derham won the Highway Safety Award. Patrick Greeno was the choice of his peers to read the Policeman's Code of Ethics, a graduation rite considered a high honor, says Capt. David A. Ricciarelli, the academy's assistant director of operations.

Mount hockey team visits Hendricken on Saturday

WARWICK --- It’s high school hockey at its finest, one of the top high school rivalries in Rhode Island, and guaranteed to draw an energetic, standing-room-only crowd every time the two teams step onto the ice.
It’s Mount St. Charles Academy vs. Bishop Hendricken High, and high school fans won’t have to wait long to get a taste of this classic showdown, because tomorrow at 8:30 p.m., they will collide at the Hawks’ Thayer Arena.

WOONSOCKET- Constance M. (Ethier) Patras, 87, of Woonsocket, died Wednesday, December 15, 2010 in Landmark Medical Center.
Born in Woonsocket, she was the wife of the late Raymond J. Patras and daughter of the late Roland and Mabel (Brunelle) Ethier.
Mrs. Patras worked as a winder at area textile mills, as well as the Salvation Army and St. Vincent de Paul.

Novans' Evans makes move from gridiron to oval

PROVIDENCE — For the past several months, Jalen Evans has been punishing his opponents with his blazing speed on the football field.
In his inaugural season of track and field, the Woonsocket High sophomore is hoping to do the same on the indoor oval.
“I am very confident,” Evans said. “When I see my competition, I get very excited. My adrenaline starts pumping. I just want to be at full speed. When I am at full speed, it feels great.”

Ornament honors public safety

WOONSOCKET — From year to year, they've featured scenes that are quintessentially Woonsocket — the facade of the Stadium Theatre, the historic Court Street Bridge, the stately sidewalk clock from McCarthy's department store.
Now the city is offering a new installment of those limited edition Christmas tree ornaments, and this season they commemorate not one, but two of the city's venerable institutions: its police and fire departments.

Clippers back for more

CUMBERLAND — Defending state champion Cumberland is not the early-season favorite to repeat, according to no less an authority than Clippers head coach Steve Gordon.
“Warwick Veterans is loaded,” Gordon was saying on Wednesday morning, a few hours before his Clippers would face North Providence and Mount Hope in a double-dual meet at Pilgrim High. “They finished six points behind us last year in the state meet and didn’t lose anybody.”

WOONSOCKET- Michael J. Cormier, 47, of Mendon Rd. died Monday December 13, 2010, in the Home and Hospice Care of Rhode Island, surrounded by his family.
He was the husband of Denise M. (Laplume) Cormier.
Born in Woonsocket, son of Richard and Vivian (Chapdelaine) Cormier.
Michael worked as a Supervisor for Tech Industries, for 20 years.
He enjoyed restoring his antique Oldsmobile and wood crafts. He was an avid New England Patriot and Red Sox fan.
