Clippers capture Gorman tourney

January 15, 2011

CUMBERLAND — There’s more than just the Lariviere twins behind this year’s Cumberland High wrestling team. Defending state champions Shaidai and Shoneil Lariviere have help from a collection of ever-improving teammates, especially 130-pound sophomore Erik Travers.
“The twins improve the team just by their presence,” Cumberland coach Steve Gordon said on Saturday night after his Clippers successfully defended their team title at the John D. Gorman Memorial Tournament. “They make everyone else better.”

Location remains last hurdle for North Smithfield food pantry

January 15, 2011

NORTH SMITHFIELD – Everything for a first-ever food pantry in town seems to be in place. There are plenty of volunteers willing to donate their time to man the pantry and the town has already started receiving funds from well-wishers to purchase food to get it started.
The only thing missing is an actual space to house the pantry.
The idea for a town food pantry began to gel last year when Town Administrator Paulette D. Hamilton assembled a group of local church and civic leaders to address the number of growing calls to her office from residents seeking a local food bank.
