Northmen flex muscles in 35-6 romp vs. PCD

NORTH SMITHFIELD — The Northmen took care of business on Friday night, outclassing the PCD Co-Op juggernaut by a 35-6 margin.
North Smithfield is now 2-2 in Division IV with three tough assignments left on its league schedule. The Northmen visit North Providence (2-2) next Friday, then host currently unbeaten Mount Pleasant (4-0) on Nov. 4 and then entertain a currently 4-1 Central Falls squad on Nov. 11.

Mounties fall to red-hot Lions, 3-1

LINCOLN — On paper, there’s not much that separates the top two teams in Division II-North – Lincoln High and Mount St. Charles Academy.
On the field Friday afternoon, the numbers didn’t lie.
The first-place Lions scored all of the offense it would need and then held off a very-determined Mount squad in the second half to post a 3-1 win at Manville Park.
With three games left on its schedule, the victory improved Lincoln’s league record to 14-1-0 and all but secured it the II-North crown. The second-place Mounties dropped to 10-2-0 with still six games remaining.

WOONSOCKET- Donna L. Ashton, 63, of Elm St., died Sunday, October 16, 2011 in Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket.
Born in Northbridge, MA, she was the daughter of Louise (Lavallee) Ashton of Uxbridge, MA and the late John L. Ashton.
She was a member of the American Legion Oliver Ashton Post 343, Whitinsville and the Burger King Club of Whitinsville. She loved lighthouses and was also a diehard fan of the Boston Red Sox.

BURRILLVILLE- Selma E. Bruyere 92, resident of Pascoag formerly of Smithfield died October 18, 2011 at the Pine Grove Health Center in Pascoag.
Wife of the late Harold Bruyere.
Born June 19, 1919 in Farmington ME, a daughter to the late Urban & Katherine (Sample) Oakes.
Selma was a loving homemaker, she lived in Smithfield for many years, and previously she lived in Pascoag for over forty years.

WOONSOCKET- Morello, Connie (Skipper) 85, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on October 15th. Connie was the beloved wife of the late Richard Morello.
She lived in Woonsocket until recently she resided in Chesnee, SC. Mrs. Morello was an accomplished seamstress in the garment industry throughout Southern New England. Her passions were family, cooking, sewing and gardening.

WOONSOCKET- Blanchet, Eugene R. Jr, age 89, passed away on October 20, 2011 at Hebert Nursing Home with his family by his side.
He was the beloved husband of Clemence (Paquin) Blanchet
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Eugene and Marie (Blais) Blanchet.
Before retirement, Mr. Blanchet was employed as a watch maker, and was a self employed Realtor. He was a WWII army veteran, a member of Knights of Columbus and an active supporter of Collings Foundation of Stow, MA. He was also a loving and caring person who was devoted to his family.

SCITUATE - Paul J. Coutu, 59, of Scituate, died Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2011 in Kent County Hospital, Warwick. Born in Pascoag, he was the son of the late Paul A. and Eleanor (O'Neill) Coutu.
Paul was a licensed surveyor and was the owner and operator of Lunar Mapping of RI. He was also a licensed pilot.
He is survived by his son, Paul J. Coutu Jr. of Scituate, two brothers, Joseph Coutu of Smithfield and Michael Coutu of Panama City Beach, FL, and two sisters, Carol Coutu-Ethier of Glocester and Ellen Hennessey of Slatersville.
