WOONSOCKET — Woonsocket High coach Tony Ciresi and Shea mentor Kate Corry didn’t expect anything different when their Division III squads faced each other on Monday afternoon.
After two-plus hours at the Aylsworth Ave. Courts, it was the Villa Novans that earned the win, defeating the Raiders, 4-3. The last match to leave the courts proved to be the difference as the No. 3 doubles’ team of Janessa Shyabouth and Diana Inthisone breezed to a 6-2, 6-3 victory over the Raiders’ Emenzialina Moreira and Vanda DeBrito.
WOONSOCKET — Nearly a quarter of the 25 candidates running for seats on the City Council and School Committee are carrying account balances for various city taxes and fees that are so delinquent they’ve already been assessed penalties.
Another handful also have accounts listed as past due, but city officials couldn’t be certain they were delinquent, citing a lag time involved in bank processing of receivables.
Jennifer L. Morin
WOONSOCKET- Jennifer L. Morin 30, of Ballou St. died Saturday at Brigham and Women's Hospital after a long illness.
She was born in Woonsocket, the daughter of Rene R. and Monique (Gaulin) Morin. Jennifer was a fun loving, outgoing people person. She was a big fan of Donald Duck, and loved giving manicures.

Swansen Potter
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.- Mrs. Carol Lynn Swansen Potter, age 68, of Grand Rapids, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, September 28, 2011.
She grew up in Chicago; and after graduating from high school, Carol earned her B.A. in education from Luther College.
For 13 years she taught elementary school and then earned her Masters Degree in Counseling at Northern Illinois University. She met Don through Community Theatre.
Eleanor O. Gardner
NORTH SMITHFIELD- Gardner, Eleanor O. (Pratt), 79, died Friday, September 30, 2011. She was the wife of Donald F. Gardner for 56 years. Born in Pawtucket, the daughter of the late Alfred H. and Sarah J. (Gray) Pratt.
Mrs. Gardner lived in Glocester before moving to North Smithfield 56 years ago. She was a lifelong member of Greenville Baptist Church and 31 year member of Primrose Grange #9.
Lionel T. Tyks
LINCOLN- Lionel T. Tyks, 79, of Kennedy Blvd. passed away on Friday at Rhode Island Hospital, He was the loving husband of Elizabeth (Asaka) Tyks.
Born Sept. 15, 1932 in Blackstone, MA.
He was the son of the late Louis J. & Marie A. (Cormier) Tyks. Lionel was employed as a computer scheduler for the Amica Insurance Co. in Lincoln for over 30 years retiring in 1993. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. An avid musician, he played the clarinet & saxophone.

LINCOLN- John Edward Harrison, 97, of Lower River Road, Lincoln passed away Friday in the Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket. He was the husband of Margaret (Gormley) Harrison, they had been married for 67 years.
Born in North Smithfield, he was the son of the late John T. and Selma (Simoneau) Harrison. He resided in Lincoln for the past 50 years, previously residing in North Providence and Burrilville.
Thomas J. Kirby, Jr.
WOONSOCKET- Thomas J. Kirby, Jr., of Woonsocket, died Saturday, October 1, 2011 in Woonsocket Health & Rehabilitation Centre. He was the beloved husband of Jeannette "Jan" (Grenon) Kirby for fifty-seven years.
Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Thomas and Anna (Owens) Kirby, Sr.
Sophia M. Paterson
BLACKSTONE- Sophia M. (Price) Paterson, 86, of Howard Street, died Friday, September 30,2011 at home. She was the wife of the late Clarence M. Paterson.
Born in Buffalo, NY, she was the daughter of the late Jozef and Bronislowa (Zandrowicz) Price.
Mrs. Paterson was a homemaker. Sophia was an avid Buffalo Bills fan and her greatest joy was being "Grandma" and "Gram" to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

WOONSOCKET — The City Council faces a busy agenda tonight that includes requests to lease office space at City Hall to U.S. Rep. David N. Cicilline and grant a tax deferment for a local mill building.
The office space lease was negotiated by Mayor Leo T. Fontaine and will provide the city with monthly rent of $100, according to an ordinance submitted to the council for action Monday evening in Harris Hall.
