Manfredo fights for WBC middleweight title Saturday

PAWTUCKET --- Fights don’t get any bigger or significant than the one Peter Manfredo Jr. has on Saturday night.
If the Manfredo’s Gym middleweight beats undefeated Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. at Houston’s Reliant Arena, he will take home Chavez’s WBC (World Boxing Council) championship belt and be in line for a huge payday in the form of an expected title defense against former WBC champion Sergio Martinez.

That time of year again — watch out for deer

LINCOLN — Route 116 South, near the intersection to Blackstone Valley Place proved to be quite the scene on Monday morning.
Two elderly women had been traveling southbound at about 9:30 a.m. when a deer leaped in front of their 2002 Buick Century and crashed through its windshield and roof, ripping a massive hole. In the process, the animal struck a 75-year-old passenger from Central Falls, and the woman suffered injuries to her head and face, stated Police Capt. Raymond Bousquet.

Cecile J. Forcier

WOONSOCKET- Cecile J. Forcier 86, formerly of 547 Clinton St. died Saturday at The Friendly Home. She was the wife of Thomas J. Forcier.
Mrs. Forcier was born in Woonsocket a daughter of the late Albert and Ida (Lescarbeau) Beauchesne.
She was a stitcher at the former Needlecraft Co. for many years before retiring in 1988.

WOONSOCKET- Muriel T. Gelinas, 86, of Greene St., Woonsocket, died Sunday at Landmark Medical Center. She was wife of Hubert P. Gelinas. They were married on June 28, 1948.
Born in Woonsocket, she was a daughter of the late Gonzalve and Lydia (Fontaine) Ethier.
She was a resident of Woonsocket for most of her life. She also lived in Bellingham for over 25 years. During their retirement years Mr. and Mrs. Gelinas resided in Florida prior to returning to Woonsocket.

Emile W. "Nick" Niedzwiadek

RAYNHAM, MA- Emile Walter "Nick" Niedzwiadek of Raynham, MA. passed away peacefully on November 12, 2011 at Morton Hospital in Taunton, MA. from Alzheimer's Disease. He was the beloved husband of Vivian M. (Page) Niedzwiadek whom he married on April 26, 1952.
Born April 22, 1926 in Woonsocket, RI, he was the son of the late Walter & Stasia (Kogut) Niedzwiadek.

WOONSOCKET- Muriel T. Gelinas, 86, of Greene St., Woonsocket, died Sunday at Landmark Medical Center. She was wife of Hubert P. Gelinas. They were married on June 28, 1948.
Born in Woonsocket, she was a daughter of the late Gonzalve and Lydia (Fontaine) Ethier.
She was a resident of Woonsocket for most of her life. She also lived in Bellingham for over 25 years. During their retirement years Mr. and Mrs. Gelinas resided in Florida prior to returning to Woonsocket.

SLATERSVILLE- Lillian M. (Pacheco) Cabral, 98, a lifelong resident of Main St. died peacefully Sunday, November 13, 2011 at home under hospice care, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late John C. Cabral.
Born in San Miguel, The Azores, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Beatriz M. Pacheco.
She worked in the local textile industry retiring in 1976 from the former Stamina Mills in Forestdale. She was a Communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church and was a member of the St. Anne's Society.

GALES FERRY CT- Irene J. (Costa) VanHouwe, 87, of Gales Ferry CT, previously of RI & FL passed away Thursday, November 10th at L&M Hospital in New London, CT.
Born in North Smithfield, RI she was the daughter of the late Christopher and Georgiana (Ticherio) Costa.
She retired in 1986 from the Desmond Mill Co. after 44 years of faithful service.
Irene was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church and the VFW Ladies Auxillary in North Smithfield.

WOONSOCKET- Jose A. Reyes-Rivera, 40, of Woonsocket, died Friday, November 11, 2011 in Rhode Island Hospital, Providence.
Born in Puerto Rico, he was the son of Fernando Reyes of Puerto Rico and Nydia Rivera of Woonsocket.
Mr. Reyes-Rivera was a Doctor of Pharmacy, having received his Ph. D. from URI in 2004. He enjoyed going to the beach, traveling and dancing. Jose is remembered as a thoughtful and giving person who was the heart and soul of his family.

WOONSOCKET- Estelle J. (Allard) O'Keefe, 80, of Pond St, died on Wednesday Nov. 9, 2011 in Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket. She was the loving wife of the late Joseph E. O'Keefe Jr.
Born in Woonsocket she was the daughter of the late Edmund Allard and the late Irma (Meunier) Doran.
Estelle worked as an Operator for the former Woonsocket Answering Service before retiring in 1988.
