When it comes to Thanksgiving Day and sports, the one thing that comes to most people's mind is football with the traditional high school games that are played each year and the NFL tripleheader that annually features the Dallas Cowboys and the Detroit Lions in two of the respective contests.
According to accomplished race director Charlie Breagy, Turkey Day is a popular holiday for another sport, too.
âIt's the biggest running day in America,â he confirmed. âI guess a lot of people do it because they know they are going to eat a big dinner later.â
LINCOLN â Police released on Tuesday afternoon the official report regarding the Nov. 12 arrest of a Pawtucket man who remains in critical condition at Rhode Island Hospital.
It indicates that Daniel J. Finn, 41, may have inflicted his own head injuries as officers attempted that Saturday night to transport him from Twin River to headquarters for processing.
The suspect also allegedly spat blood and saliva on at least one officer after claiming to them he had been diagnosed with hepatitis.
Myrtle G. Wilkins
BREWSTER- Myrtle G. Wilkins, 94, of Brewster passed away on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at Liberty Commons Skilled Care and Rehabilitation Center.
Born on August 16, 1917, in Quincy, MA, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Elsie (Flye) Tabor.
She attended the Pawtucket Hospital School of Nursing. In 1937, she married Woodrow Woody Wilkins at the Congregational Church in Slatersville, RI, where they lived for 52 years, later retiring to Cape Cod in 1981.
WOONSOCKET- Madeleine M. "Maggie" Chicoine, 69, of West School St. died peacefully on Sunday after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Woonsocket, she was a daughter of the late William and Edna (Gouin) Dumas.
Maggie was the President of Magbea Realty Co. for over thirty years, she also worked at Fleet Bank and later Bank of America.
Sophie A. Anderson
NO. SMITHFIELD- Sophie A. (Korzeniowski) Anderson, 96, previously of 2nd Avenue, died November 21, 2011 in St. Antoine Residence. She was the wife of the late Carl A. Anderson.
Born in Blackstone, she was the daughter of the late Stefan and Michalina (Gruszka) Korzeniowski.
WOONSOCKET- Albanie "Bonnie" Belisle 93, of Wyndemere Woods, died Sunday at the Holiday in Lincoln.
She was born in Canada, a daughter of the late Alberic and Amanda (Tardif) Belisle. Bonnie worked in the dental office of Drs. Picard for over thirty years.
Flore Emilia Bergeron
WOONSOCKET- Flore Emilia Bergeron, age 73, of Woonsocket, RI, passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2011 at the Friendly Nursing Home, Woonsocket, RI.
She was born Friday, February 4, 1938, daughter of the late Edgar and Rita (Moison) Giguere.
Flore was a lifelong resident of Woonsocket, who was a loving mother and grandmother.
Flore is survived by her husband Joseph Bergeron, Sr., 12 children, 4 brothers, 2 sisters, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter Suzanne Marie Franklin.

WOONSOCKET- Alfred Geremy "Pep" Berard, Jr, age 60, of Woonsocket, RI passed away Friday, Nov.18, 2011 at St. Antoine Residence, No. Smithfield, RI.
He was born Friday, March 30, 1951 in Woonsocket, son of the late Alfred Geremy and Lillian (LaRouche) Berard Sr.
