November 27th
CUMBERLAND â The Cumberland High wrestling team opens practice today without returning state runner-up Erik Travers, who has become a key member of the football team this season.
The Cumberland gridders are scheduled to visit Chariho on Tuesday night in a Division II semifinal contest. Travers, a 5-foot-8, 150-pound junior, will start at cornerback on defense and halfback on offense.

Is it possible the spread offense and its numerous variations have run their course at the high school football level?
Sure seemed that way during Wednesday nightâs Tolman-Shea game when neither team looked efficient on offense in a 7-0 Tigers victory. Both teams appeared to be mirror images of one another on offense as they operated out of the shotgun on almost every play, blending in elements of the spread and wildcat formations, sending backs into motion on almost every play.

Jessica Bliss and her daughter, Gabriella, 4, of Cumberland, shop for bead bracelets Saturday at Tranquil Gardens on Mendon Road in Cumberland. Yesterday was known nationally as Shop Local Saturday â to offset the frenzy of shoppers who frequented the âbig boxâ chain stores on Black Friday.
GLOCESTER â Working from their home studio in neighboring Burrillville, hobby videographers Carlo and Betty Mencucci have just finished a follow-up to their well-received 2009 documentary on the townâs history, âWest of the Seven Mile Line.â
While the first installment covered the townâs earliest days, this one touches on the most colorful events of the 1700s through the late 1800s, from the tragic saga of âBetty the Learned Elephantâ to the discovery of gold in the woods of Durfee Hill.
With its dominating 35-6 victory on Thursday, Cumberland High put a halt to a four-game winning streak by Woonsocket in the annual Thanksgiving Day contest. The Clippers continued their hot streak and momentum for their upcoming Division II semifinal tilt at Chariho Regional this Tuesday night with their seventh straight victory.

LINCOLN â There seem to be two types of Black Friday shoppers: the people who come out and wait begrudgingly in line for a specific sale item, and those who view it as one big, exhausting â but-enjoyable â road trip.
Pawtucket residents Pauline Tougas, Rachel Doyon and Jeannine Bourski fall into the latter category. The three women, along with a couple of other family members, headed out to do shopping at the major retail stores along Route 1 in South Attleboro, Mass. at 11:30 p.m. on Thursday and they were just finishing up at 9:30 a.m. on Friday.
Harold R. Chandler
WOONSOCKET- Harold R. Chandler 84, of Cote Ave. died Friday at home. He was the husband of the late Vivian L. (Gagne) Chandler.
Born in Bellingham, he was the son of the late Albert and Isabella (Gill) Chandler.
Harold worked in the maintenance department of General Motors for thirty years, before retiring in 1984. He was a member of the Woonsocket Lodge of Elks #850 for thirty years and was an avid card player.
Henri A. Riquier
BELLINGHAM- Henri A. Riquier, 85, of Pulaski Blvd, Bellingham, died Monday, November 21, 2011 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Therese (Couture) Riquier.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late David, Jr. and Velentine (Garree) Riquier .
Michael F. Oliver
BELLINGHAM- Michael "Jupe" Oliver, 56, of South Center St. Bellingham, Ma. died Wednesday November 23, 2011. He was the former husband of Linda (Llewellyn) Oliver.
Born in Houlton, Maine, son of the late Forest F. Oliver, and Mary J. (Dyer) Oliver, of Bellingham, Ma.
Mr. Oliver worked as a Furnace Operator for Saint Gobain Container in Milford for several years.
Steve D. Laliberte
SEBRING FLA- Steve D. Laliberte, passed away on Nov 4 2011 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
He has lived in Fla for the passed 7 years, prior to moving lived in Cumberland.
He is the son Of Dennis and Pauline (Poirier) Laliberte of Cumberland. He leaves a son in Fla and a daughter in Woonsocket, a sister Lori Marcoux in North Smithfield, also a fiance in Fla.
He worked in area body shops before moving and worked at Channey's auto in Fla.
A Memorial Mass is planned at St. John Vianney Church on Tuesday Nov 29 @10:00 am.
