Jalen Evans sits out indoor track meet

PROVIDENCE – The first major meet of the indoor track season was minus one of its fastest runners on Saturday.
Hanging out with his teammates outside the track surface at the Providence Career and Technical Academy field house was Woonsocket High junior Jalen Evans. After competing earlier this week in his first meet since a season-ending foot injury at the start of the football season, Evans was back in street clothes after a minor setback.

R.I. wants to quash lawsuit on funding

WOONSOCKET — The legal move by Woonsocket and Pawtucket to overturn the state's school funding formula may be headed for an early court showdown.
Gov. Chafee’s administration recently filed a motion in Superior Court seeking to have the Woonsocket and Pawtucket suit dismissed. Stephen Robinson, the education law attorney representing the communities, in turn responded with a countering petition.

Ornament keeps landmark alive

WOONSOCKET – Once the largest rubber mill in the world, the Alice Mill collapsed in a gale of fire this spring, another icon of the city’s industrial heritage laid to waste.
But the landmark lives on as the inspiration for this season’s installment of the municipal Christmas tree ornament. Mayor Leo T. Fontaine says he could think of no better tribute to a site that has touched so many generations of city residents and their families.

WOONSOCKET -- After scoring just eight goals in its first three games, Mount St. Charles broke out in a big way offensively on Friday night.
Brandon Borges and Ryan Berard each produced a pair of goals and as many assists for the Mounties, who scored the final seven goals of the game en route to a 9-4 win over Moses Brown in their Division I meeting at Adelard Arena.
