Mounties capture Holiday Face-Off tourney

WOONSOCKET — Dave Belisle loves to see non-league games like this -- a hard-fought, down-to-the-wire matchup against a formidable out-of-state team that will only help make Mount St. Charles a better squad down the line when the Mounties take on their Division I opponents.
The Mount coach got one of those games on Thursday night against powerful La Salle College High of Wyndmoor, Penn., in their 16th annual Holiday Face-Off tournament at Adelard Arena.

Town mulls sharing among fire districts

BURRILLVILLE — The Town Council has voted to ask the town's four independent fire districts to consider sitting down and discussing possible ways the departments can share services or equipment in an effort to reduce costs for district taxpayers.

WOONSOCKET – At a time when the term “road rage” was just coming into vogue, Donald Graham became a local poster child for the phenomenon by using a powerful crossbow to kill a man during a 1994 highway altercation in nearby Massachusetts.
The former church deacon is serving life without the possibility of parole for his crime at the Souza Baranawski Correctional Center in Shirley, a maximum security prison where the population includes serial killers, child molesters and rapists.

BLACKSTONE - Wilfred R. Millette, 84, of Blackstone Street, Blackstone, died on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket.
Born in Blackstone, Massachusetts on April 26, 1927, he was a son of the late Joseph and Aurore (St. Germaine) Millette. He was raised and educated in Blackstone where he resided his entire life.
He was employed as an attendant at the family business, Millette's Garage in Blackstone.
Mr. Millette was a communicant of St. Paul's Church in Blackstone.

Roland Maynard

WOONSOCKET - Roland Maynard, 89, of Woonsocket passed away on Friday, December 16, 2011 at the Rhode Island Veterans Home in Bristol, RI. He was the beloved husband of the late Ethel (Heroux) Maynard and his cherished companion Angelina P. (Dalti) Dagesse.
Born in Woonsocket on November 3, 1922, he was the son of the late Romeo and Corinne G. (Gaulin) Maynard.

Richard G. Carignan

WOONSOCKET - Richard G. Carignan, 69, a longtime resident of Hanora Lippitt Manor passed away Thursday, December 29, 2011 in Overlook Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Pascoag.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Valmore M. and Evelyn (Guyette) Carignan.
He is survived by his sister, Diane F. Moran and her husband James of Pascoag, his niece, Elizabeth Moran of Tucson, AZ and two nephews, Thomas Moran and his wife Shelly of Upton, MA and Stephen Moran of Williamsburg, VA. He will be remembered for his kind heart and wonderful smile.
