Villa Novans too much for Mounties to handle

WOONSOCKET — Woonsocket High coach George Coderre feels he has an experienced squad that will be competitive in Division I this season.
Two of the players Coderre expects to run the show are four-year varsity members Michelle Brayboy and Kailey Fugere.
The talented seniors gave a preview of their effective 1-2 punch in Thursday’s non-league season-opener against Mount St. Charles Academy.

Cumberland men facing gun charges

CUMBERLAND — Two townsmen were arrested Monday and charged with altering the serial numbers on guns believed to have been stolen, police said.
One of the suspects was also charged with illegal possession of cocaine and a knife with a blade longer than three inches.
At around 4:30 Monday morning, police were summoned to Birchwood Drive to investigate a report of suspicious activity. Upon arrival, Sgt. John Cook located a car occupied by Corey Ridolfi, 24, and Jared Lemay, 18, each of whom has a last known address of 20 Green St., Cumberland.

FARMINGTON, MO - Lorraine (Briere) Bertrand, 67, of Farmington, MO., died Wednesday morning at Stockhoff Nursing Home in Frederick, MO.
Mrs. Bertrand worked as a caterer at Monday Morning Industries in Woonsocket, RI, before moving to Missouri.
She leaves behind her father, Aurele Briere; a daughter, Pamela (Bertrand) Woody and her daughters, Marissa Stanford, Abbigail Stanford, and Angela Stanford; a son, Marc Bertrand and his son, Adam Bertrand; two sisters, Paulette (Briere) Martin and Janet(Briere) Haczynski; and five brothers, John, Thomas, David, Raymond and William Briere.

MT. LAUREL, NJ - Jeannette Rose Levesque, 91, formerly of Mt. Laurel, NJ died, Tuesday, December 6, 2011 in Hamilton Continuing Care in Hamilton, NJ.
Born in Woonsocket, RI, Mrs. Levesque was a resident of Mt. Laurel for several years before moving to Hamilton.
Mrs. Levesque had served as a Lay Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Good Counsel R. C. Church in Moorestown, NJ, was a great seamstress and enjoyed cooking.
She was the wife of the late John E. Levesque Sr., mother of the late Richard Levesque, and sister of the late Albert Menard and Sylvia Mondor.

LINCOLN — Facilities Manager and Recycling Coordinator Dave Sale admitted he usually goes away with his wife for Thanksgiving, but they made different plans this year.
As the couple and their daughters' families sat down at the Saylesville home for a magnificent meal, “Grandpa” Sale looked around him and said, “You know what makes me so thankful this year? I know 304 families who right now, or sometime this afternoon, will enjoy a beautiful Thanksgiving dinner.

Hamilton: It was a 'great year' for North Smithfield

NORTH SMITHFIELD — Despite the recession and the continuing gloomy economic climate, North Smithfield was able to move forward with several economic and social initiatives during 2011, a year Town Administrator Paulette D. Hamilton called "great" in terms of how the town was able to meet the needs of residents.
"This has been a great year for improving the way we interact and respond to town residents’ needs," Hamilton said recently in her annual state-of-the-town address to the Northern Rhode Island Advisory Group, a small business affiliate of the Chamber of Commerce.
