BURRILLVILLE — When it comes to the public school teams, there aren’t too many folks in the state who are as big as fan of them as longtime coach Gary Rouleau.
That being noted, you can’t blame Rouleau if he’s been particularly excited about the truly outstanding season his Burrillville/Ponaganset co-op team is enjoying this winter.
The Broncos, who skated to an easy 7-0 triumph over the Barrington/Mount Hope co-op squad on Saturday night at the Cranston Ice Rink, have won five games in a row and sit in second place in the standings with a 10-2 record.
PROVIDENCE — It's not all about winning state championships.
With an emerging track and field program like the Woonsocket High girls, it's all about taking it one meet, one year at a time.
The Villa Novans, who last week copped their second straight league tile in the Dwyer Division, took another positive step forward on Saturday afternoon at the Providence Athletic Facility. Competing in the hard-as-nails Large School Championship, Woonsocket finished fourth among the nine schools with a solid 51.5 points.
CUMBERLAND - Four months after Cumberland School Supt. Donna A. Morelle announced she would not seek renewal of her contract when it expires on June 30, the School Committee is in the early stages of finding her replacement.
The committee has voted to draft a request for proposals (RFP) to hire a consulting firm to help the district in its search for a new school chief. At its meeting Thursday night, the committee approved a draft copy of the RFP, which means the district will advertise the bids next week.
A deadline for bids has been set for the first week of March.
PROVIDENCE – Three Woonsocket men were sentenced in federal court yesterday in connection with an armed home invasion and drug rip-off that occurred here two years ago.
Julio Candelario, 30, and Robert Beauparlant Jr., 27, were both ordered to serve 15 years, while Pedro Cuadrado, 22, was sentenced to nine years and three months. U.S. District Judge William E. Smith also ordered all three men to remain on supervised release for five years after they complete their prison sentences.
