Novans do not strike gold at state meet

PROVIDENCE – Kaylnn “K.K.” Pitts put on her sweats and just sat down on the infield.
Like most of the athletes and spectators at Saturday’s R.I. Indoor Track & Field Championships, all the Woonsocket High sophomore could do was watch what was transpiring in the high jump area and marvel.
Pitts, the reigning outdoor titlist, had what she described as her best effort of the season in the high jump. Unfortunately, on this particular afternoon that would “only” get her second best in the final results.

Police seek public's help in missing man case

BURRILLVILLE - Police are seeking help from the public to determine the whereabouts of a 56-year-old Burrillville man who went missing on Feb. 6.
Lt. Kevin S. San Antonio said the police department is actively seeking information regarding Denis Chartier, 56, of Burrillville, who was reported missing by his family.
Chartier is the assistant coach of Brown University's women soccer team.

Woonsocket police see dramatic rise in heroin

WOONSOCKET – In a town where cocaine has long been king, heroin could be making a push for supremacy in the illicit drug trade.
The latest statistics show the amount of heroin police seized in 2010 increased by a staggering 284 percent compared to the year before, while cocaine seizures dropped 54 percent. Marijuana seizures also fell – by 47 percent.
