BOSTON — For the elite runners at this morning’s Boston Marathon, the goal is to be the first to cross the finish line.
For several of the other participants, including Cumberland residents and forty-something runners Dave Constantino and Robert Lux, a winning performance is defined by the numbers on the clock when they reach their final destination at Copley Square.
Constantino and Lux, a pair of triathletes as well as good friends, those numbers they’re hoping begin with a two. In other words, a sub three-hour effort.
CENTRAL FALLS — Call Naffi Koulibaly and Emily Baptista a study in contrasts.
During a game called “Willow in the Wind,” Baptista — a sixth-grader at Baldwin Elementary School in Pawtucket — jumped at the chance to participate. With her “teammates” surrounding her in a tight circle, she was asked to stand up straight, to consider herself as rigid as a broomstick, cross her arms across her chest, close her eyes and lean forward.
CUMBERLAND - A total of seven firms have submitted proposals for the job of consulting the town on a fire department merger study.
The bid proposals were opened Wednesday and will be reviewed by Mayor Daniel J. McKee, who will recommend one of the seven to the Town Council sometime next month.
CUMBERLAND - Caitlyn Anderson, a senior at Roger Williams University, could have spent her winter break this past January basking in the sun in Florida or doing any number of things college students do these days.
Instead, the 22-year-old Cumber-land resident volunteered her time and skills to help poor families in the deep South obtain affordable housing.
