Matt Letourneau led Woon Tax on the mound and at the plate with a 15-4 win over Cercle Laurier, bashing two doubles, a single and 4 RBIâs, Letourneau also tossed a 3 hitter over 3 innings, striking out 6.
Jared Briere added a triple and a single with 4 RBIâs for the Taxmen.
WOONSOCKET -- The St. Josephâs Veterans Cardinals had a monster week, grabbing a pair of wins and taking over first place in East Woonsocket Little League Major Division.
In the first game, the Cards edged out the Rotary Club Red Sox 6-5. Jimmy Cabral threw the first two innings for the Cards, striking out four batters and allowing just one hit.
PROVIDENCE -- Woonsocket High sophomore Jalen Evans made some history on Saturday at the Classical Classic, setting a new school record of 51.0 seconds while winning the 400-meter Large School race. John Wilburâs previous record of 51.2 seconds had been set way back in 1982.
Portsmouthâs Tyler Oliveira won the Small School 400 in 49.90 seconds, giving Evans something to shoot for as the championship meet schedule begins this coming Saturday with the Class meets.

WOONSOCKET â The city might be forced to raise taxes by as much as 4.25 percent next fiscal year to make ends meet, the most allowed by state law without a waiver from the auditor general.
But Mayor Leo T. Fontaine said he is still making cuts and hopes to propose a budget next week calling for a hike not quite so steep.
âOur goal is to come in at or under the cap,â said the mayor. âWe've got most things nailed down, but we're still going through the budget to make a last round of cuts before we submit this budget to the City Council.â
