WOONSOCKET â Mayor Leo T. Fontaine yesterday proposed a $120.5 million budget for next fiscal year that calls for a 4.5 increase in the tax levy, the maximum allowed by law without a waiver from the state.
Despite the increase, Fontaine said the budget calls for the elimination of two positions in the highway division, unpaid furlough days for employees and spending rollbacks for most city departments.
PROVIDENCE â Tolman High senior Alyssa Browning didn't know what shocked her more â the fact she had been selected as one of 68 recipients of the 2011 Lt. Governor's Leadership Awards, or that her mom Cindy didn't peruse the letter informing her.
âShe has a tough time keeping her hands off my mail, so it took everything she had not to open it,â Browning giggled before the ceremony, held at the Rhode Island Department of Administration's atrium on Capitol Hill Monday afternoon.
WOONSOCKET- Mrs. Aurore M. (Berube) Kiczak, 90, of Second Ave., Woonsocket died peacefully May 16, 2011 at The Friendly Home with her family at her side. She was the wife of Myron P. Kiczak and had just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
Born Oct. 20, 1920 in Woonsocket. She was a daughter of the late William and Mary (Cormier) Berube. She was a lifelong city resident.
Aurore was a homemaker. She was a former member of the Fairmount Manor Club and a former member of the woman's auxiliary at the Fairmount Post.
Pasco A. "Pat" Gatta
NORTH SMITHFIELD- Pasco A. "Pat" Gatta, 79, of School St., and formerly of Skyview Ave., No. Smithfield, died May 15, 2011 at Landmark Medical Center. He was the husband of the late Ann M. (Ventre) Gatta.
Born June 30, 1930 in Providence, a son of the late Rosario and Lena (Russo) Gatta. He lived most of his life in No. Smithfield.
Pat worked as a machinist for the former Madison Industries. He also worked part time for the former Zayre's Department Store.
Paul E. Cagnon Sr.
BURRILLVILLE- Paul E. Cagnon Sr., 81, resident of Pascoag, died Monday, May 16, 2011 with his family by his side, at the RI Veterans Home in Bristol. He was the husband of Lucienne (Gagnon) Cagnon, whom he married Oct. 23, 1954.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Paul A. and Rose (Lemay) Cagnon.
Mrs. Susan M.
WOONSOCKET- Mrs. Susan M. (Zito) Gobeille, 92, died May 16, 2011 at St. Antoine Residence. She was the wife of the late Frederick C. Gobeille, Sr.
Born March 14, 1919 in W. Warwick, a daughter of the late Paolo and Carmella (Piantarosa) Zito. She was a No. Smithfield resident most of her life.
Susan worked as a tester for A.T. Cross in Lincoln for several years. She also worked for the former Kornstein's in Woonsocket for many years.
Susan was a former member of the Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Seniors and served as the secretary for many years.
Georgette M. Morin
JOHNS ISLAND, SC- Georgette M. (Mandeville) Morin, 101, long-time resident of Woonsocket, died Sunday, April 24 at Harvest Rehab and Nursing Home in Johns Island, South Carolina. She was the devoted wife of Raymond J. Morin for fifty years before his passing in 1985.
Born in Sorel, Quebec, Canada, she was one of thirteen children. The family moved to Woonsocket when Georgette was a child.
Keith R. Carlisle
BLACKSTONE Keith R. Carlisle, 38, of Blackstone, passed away suddenly after being stricken at home on Sunday, May 15, 2011 at Landmark Medical Center. He was the loving, caring and devoted husband to his high school sweetheart, Brenda E. (Lemay) Carlisle of 15 years. May 27th they would have celebrated their 16th wedding anniversary.
He was also a wonderful father to Kayla and Kristen Carlisle.
Gerald R. Deragon
FORT MYERS, FL- Gerald R. Deragon, 73, of Fort Myers, FL, entered into eternal peace early morning on May 9, 2011.
