PROVIDENCE --- The Division I state title will come down to one game.
Cumberland High scored early and often and senior ace pitcher Bethany Paul continued her postseason brilliance on the mound in Mondayâ€™s championship round against Mount St. Charles Academy at Rhode Island College.
And the final result was a surprisingly-lopsided 15-3 conquest by the fourth-seeded Clippers that not only dealt the ninth-seeded Mounties their first loss of the double-elimination tournament, but set up tonightâ€™s 8 p.m. winner-take-all clash back at RIC.
Helen J. Sikonski
NEWPORT- Helen J. (Mostek) Sikonski, a resident of the Forest Farm Health Care Center in Middletown passed away peacefully on Friday at the Newport Hospital. She was the wife of the late Edward Sikonski.
Born: June 28, 1921 in Woonsocket she was the daughter of the late Stanislaus & Aniela (Struzik) Mostek, she resided in Bellingham, MA. most of her life before moving to Newport 15 years ago.
Violet A. St. Germain
NORTH SMITHFIELD- Violet A. (Saucier) St. Germain, 74 of St. Paul St. died Sunday in Landmark Medical Center. She was the wife of Aldor J. St. Germain for 56 years.
Born in Upton, MA a daughter of the late Harry and Blanche Rose (Blanchard) Saucier, she resided in North Smithfield for the past forty five years.
Mrs. St. Germain was a machine operator for Polytop Manufacturing Co. for twenty years before retiring twenty years ago.
Paul J. Stone
MILLVILLE, MA- Paul J. Stone, 61, of Millville, passed away on June 4th at home. He was the husband of the late Gail (Hem) Stone.
Born: July 6, 1949, he was the son of the late Raymond & Stasia (Korzeniowski) Stone, he resided in Millville for many years.
Paul was employed as a sub station maintenance foreman for the former MA. Electric Co. which is now National Grid. He was a United States Navy Veteran during the Vietnam Era.
Anita Eva Benzino
DEBARY, FLORIDA- Benzino, Anita Eva (Richard), age 87 of Debary, Florida passed away on June 11, 2011.
Born in Woonsocket, RI she was the daughter of the late Walter D. and Marie R. (Allain) Richard.
She was raised in Bellingham, MA. Anita was united in marriage to Ralph Benzino on November 15, 1947. She was a retired Registered Nurse and a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church.
CUMBERLAND- Harold Golden, 99, of Mendon Rd., died Saturday, June 11, 2011 in Miriam Hospital, Providence. He was the husband of Evelyn (Bernstingle) Golden, whom he married October 1, 1939.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Samuel and Sarah (Yaraus) Golden.
Mr. Golden was a Wool Waste Dealer with his father at Sam Golden & Son, Inc., Woonsocket, in which he would become President and carry on the family tradition. A member of Congregation B'nai Israel and formerly a member of B'nai Brith,
Leo N. Cote
WOONSOCKET- Leo N. Cote, 93, of Woonsocket, died Saturday at The Friendly Home. He was the loving husband of the late Jeannine B. (Durand) Cote.
Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Hidas and Albertine (Durand) Cote. He was a lifelong resident of the city.
Mr. Cote was a WWII Army veteran. He served in the Pacific Theatre and was awarded the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with Bronze Star, American Defense Service Medal, and the Asiatic-Pacific-Theatre Campaign Medal.
Walter L. Weseluk
CUMBERLAND- Walter L. Weseluk 74, of Sulyma St. died Saturday at Oakland Grove Health Care Center. He was the husband of Adrienne (Boisvert) Weseluk.
Born in Woonsocket he was the son of the late Walter and Anna (Sulyma) Weseluk. Mr. Weseluk worked for the Cumberland School Department in Maintenance for twenty six years before retiring in 1994. He also worked for the former Whitins Machine and Moore Fabrics for many years. He was past president of the former Ukrainian Citizens Club.
Ida A. Lambert
MILFORD- Ida A. (Brothers) Lambert, 94, of Milford formerly of Holliston, Bellingham and Woonsocket, passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2011 at Milford Care & Rehabilitation. She was the beloved wife of the late Desire Lambert.
Born in Bellingham on April 12, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Lucinda (Dosteleur) Brothers.
James A. Paul
BURRILLVILLE- James A. Paul, 59, resident of Harrisville, died suddenly on June 9, 2011.
Loving husband of thirty seven years to Kathleen (Tatro) Paul.
Born in Woonsocket, a son of Beverly (Lurvey) Chabot of Slatersville, and the late Arthur G. Paul.
James was a Concrete Batcher for Rosenfeld Concrete Co. who maintained a Hydraulic license.
