Mount St. Charles graduates 175

WOONSOCKET — With a ceremony honoring their school’s traditions and religious beliefs, 175 members of Mount St. Charles Academy’s Class of 2011 stepped forward to their futures at commencement exercises in Brother Adelard Arena Sunday.
The traditions of the day included the school presenting members of its Class of 1961 with honorary diplomas and the ceremony’s musical performances by Marc Blanchette’s senior band.

Hudon, Biernacki are Burrillville's best

BURRILLVILLE — Kerstin Hudon is the valedictorian, and Thomas Brien Biernacki, the salutatorian, for the Burrillville High School Class of 2011, Principal Michael Whaley announced this week.
Hudon, who ranks first in her class of 196 seniors, finishes her four years at Burrillville High School with a grade point average of 4.42, receiving highest honors each semester.

N.S. residents to have say on budget Monday night

NORTH SMITHFIELD - Residents will get the opportunity this week to offer input on the proposed Fiscal 2012 $33.9 million town operating budget for next year.
The annual public hearing on the budget kicks off Monday at 7 p.m. in the Kendall Dean Auditorium on Green Street.
The proposed $33,977,854 budget represents a $747,215 decrease over the current $33,230,639 budget. The spending plan includes a $20,914,816 school budget, up $155,121 over last year.

City to acquire new truck to replace Engine No. 3

WOONSOCKET – The city is ready to order a new fire truck from a South Dakota company to replace Engine No. 3 — a workhorse of the fire department that's about ready for retirement.
If the City Council approves, Crimson Fire will supply the Woonsocket Fire Department with a new engine at a cost of $263,981.
The city will pay for the vehicle in one fell swoop with proceeds from its $2 million federal Community Development Block Grant, an annual allotment which has been used for purchasing firefighting apparatus in the past.
