Dave Adamonis Jr. knows his younger brother Bradâ€™s golf game as well as anyone.
Growing up in Cumberland, the two siblings, a mere four years apart in age, spent endless hours on the links during their childhood years and beyond. Although more than 1,000 miles separate them now, they still keep in close contact, talking about golf and their personal lives.
â€śEven though Brad lives in Florida,â€ť Dave said, â€śwe still talk to each other every day.â€ť
WOONSOCKET â€” The city was proclaimed a safer place to live yesterday as state, local and federal law enforcement authorities announced the results of a two-year probe of gun violence and drugs prompted, in part, by the 2008 shooting death of teenager Brandon Smith.
Operating undercover, members of an interagency task force purchased 37 firearms, including an AK-47 assault rifle and four weapons stolen in home burglaries during the course of the investigation. They also arrested 18 people, most on federal charges, and seized a smorgasbord of narcotics, from crack cocaine to LSD.
WOONSOCKET- Jeannine Mercure 67, of Second Ave died Tuesday after a long battle with cancer, at Hebert Nursing Home. She was born in Woonsocket, a daughter of the late Maurice and Juliette (Labonte) Mercure.
Jeannine worked as an assembler before becoming disabled. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Choir. Jeannine had a very giving heart sharing what little she had by becoming a foster parent to three overseas children.
Marie A. Heroux
FT. MYERS, FL. - Marie A. (LaCroix) Heroux, 73, of Ft. Myers, FL, previously of Woonsocket, passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2011 at Hope Hospice, Cape Carol, FL. She was the widow of the late Russell Heroux Sr. They were married for 49 years.
Marie was born in Woonsocket the daughter of the late Lucien and Rita Bouchard LaCroix.
NORTH SMITHFIELD- Olga (Bellas) Bicki, 87, loving mother and grandmother, died Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at her home surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Christy V. Bicki.
Aldor J. Girard, Jr.
WOONSOCKET Aldor J. Girard, Jr. formerly of Jillson Ave., died November 27, 2010 in Woonsocket.
He was the beloved husband of Marie R. (Phaneuf) Girard and father of Jean Marie Ottavi and Paul J. Girard both of Florida.
His funeral will be held on Saturday at 11am in St. Agatha's Church, Logee St., Woonsocket. Burial with military honors in the R.I. Veterans Cemetery, Exeter will be private. Calling hours are respectfully omitted.
WOONSOCKET â€“ The city wants to recoup some of the costs it incurred for extinguishing the Alice Mill fire last week from the company that insures the mammoth mill site.
The known costs thus far include $38,660 in overtime, most for the Woonsocket Fire Department, but nearly $7,000 for police, said Mayor Leo T. Fontaine.
A full inventory of expenses, including possible overtime logged by workers in the water department, should be finished within a couple of days.
CUMBERLAND â€“ One of three suspects arrested in a violent home invasion and weapons theft on Feb. 23 has been indicted on a string of charges by a Providence County grand jury.
PROVIDENCE --- They split their regular-season series by winning lopsided games on their home fields. They battled to a 1-0 duel in the winnersâ€™ bracket semifinals, and they shared some Division I championship history by playing a one-sided game that was decided by a dozen runs.
On Tuesday night, Cumberland High and Mount St. Charles Academy battled each other in a winner-take-all showdown for the ages, a nine-inning duel that saw the Clippers emerge with their programâ€™s first state title.
