The fourth week in July means the following:
1). The bombardment of back-to-school commercials, serving as a cruel reality check and a reminder that summer reading will not be accomplished through osmosis or CliffsNotes.
2). There’s roughly a month remaining in the minor league season. Where does the time go?
3). Another fast-moving July 31 trading deadline is just days away from building toward a crescendo.
EAST PROVIDENCE — It’s been quite some time since Collette Vacations Post 79 enjoyed a nine-game win streak or found itself two wins away from a state championship, but that’s the state of the Pawtucket ballclub heading into tonight’s 8 p.m. winners’ bracket final at McCarthy Stadium.
Eric Geisman gave a splendid performance on the mound and Post 79 did just enough offensively to help produce a 4-1 victory over Cumberland Post 14 on Thursday night in their semifinal-round game at Pierce Field.
Roland Lavallee has never veered away from his dream of qualifying for the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials in January.
But for the last nine months, the former Mount St. Charles standout has certainly been tested with a series of personal and physical setbacks.
Irving D. Studley
HOLLISTON, MA - Irving D. Studley, 90, of Dorset Road and formerly of Albion died Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at Framingham Union Hospital, Framingham, MA surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Eleanor M. (Peltier) Studley.
Born in Pittsfield, MA, a son of the late James and Charlotte (Rogers) Studley, he had lived in the Albion section of Lincoln before moving to South Yarmouth, MA for 20 years. He later lived in Twentynine Palms, CA before moving to Holliston 2 years ago.
Robert G. Cloutier
WOONSOCKET- Robert G. Cloutier 49, of Woonsocket, died Monday at home.
Mr. Cloutier was born in Woonsocket, the son of Robert E. Cloutier and the late Jeanne (Mandeville) Cloutier.
He was an assembler of fiber optic wire for General Cable in Franklin, MA for five years, and was previously employed by the Okonite Co. in Cumberland for many years. He was an avid Yankees and Patriots fan and enjoyed spending time at the beach.
Raymond B. Begin
WOONSOCKET- Raymond B. Begin, 77, resident of Woonsocket, died July 27, 2011 at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center in Providence.
Born Oct. 19, 1933 in Albion RI, a son of the late Rodolpha & Jeanne (Leroux) Begin.
Raymond worked for the Replacement Auto Parts, and the Zambarano Hospital. He was a peacetime Navy veteran. He enjoyed visiting the Library, an avid cat lover and enjoyed feeding ducks.
