PROVIDENCE â From humble beginnings nearly a century ago, through good times and bad, the Rhode Island Foundation has grown its endowment to a whopping $565 million.
But the state's leading philanthropic organization knows that no matter how much it grows the pot, it's never going to be big enough.
âThere are always more good ideas than we can fund,â says Owen Heleen, RIF's vice president for grant programs. âThat's why we're always challenged to support more and more of the good ideas that come our way.â
Josephine M. Morrow
WOONSOCKET- Josephine M. "Josie" Morrow, 95, died Tuesday at home. She was the wife of the late John F. Morrow.
Born in Boston, she was daughter of the late George and Margaret (Doyle) Hogan.
She was resided in Boston for most of her life. She was a resident of Woonsocket for the past several years.
Mrs. Morrow was employed in the housekeeping department at Boston City Hospital for over 30 years.
She was an avid bingo player and loved to care for children.
Josie's Catholic faith was central to her life and she maintained a lifelong devotion to the Blessed Mother.
Eva H. Borkowski
WOONSOCKET- Eva H. Borkowski 93, of Roberta Ave. died Tuesday at home. She was the wife of the late Leo J. Borkowski.
Born in Woonsocket, she was a daughter of the late Theophile and Helene (Deschamps) Theriault.
Mrs. Borkowski worked as a seamstress at Narragansett Knitting for thirty years and Gorham Industries for twelve years before retiring.
WALLINGFORD, CT- Doris Mary Blazejewski Linton, 84, of Ashlar Village, Wallingford, passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at the Masonicare Health Center in Wallingford. She was the beloved wife of the late Andrew Robert Linton.
NORTH SMITHFIELD â Town Administrator Paulette D. Hamilton is calling for a change to the town charter that would give the town administrator veto power over the budget, a move she says will provide a better system of checks and balances.
PROVIDENCE- Annette Spearman, 51, a former CNA, of 4 Bodell Avenue, Providence, died Friday at home. She was the wife of Keith Robinson.
Born in Woonsocket, daughter of the late Mack and Earlene (Vance) Spearman.
Besides her husband, she is survived by sons, Joshua and Jonathan Robinson, daughters, LaTanya and LaToya Robinson, brother, Russell Spearman, sisters, Yvonne, Rose, Nikita, and Deborah Minte Spearman, and 6 grandchildren.
"Joe" E. Perry
BURRILLVILLE- Joseph "Joe" E. Perry, 55, resident of Mapleville, died July 15, 2011 in the Fatima Hospital. Loving husband to Cheryl (Dumas) Perry.
Born in Woonsocket, son of Rita (Lapre) Perry and the late Joseph E. Perry.
Joe worked for the CVS Distribution Center, and owned & operator Aubrees Cash for Gold in No. Smithfield. He was a former district manager for Rug Doctor. A resident of Mapleville for twenty five years. Joe enjoyed cooking and working outdoors.
UXBRIDGE- Deacon William J. Lucier, 69, a resident of Uxbridge for 35 years, died Sunday July 17, 2011 in U Mass Medical Center, Lake Ave., Worcester. He was the husband of Nancy J. (Deveau) Lucier.
WOONSOCKET- Peter Bilyj of Church St. passed away peacefully on Monday at the Trinity Health & Rehabilitation Center in Woonsocket with his family at his side. He was the loving Husband to Helena (Lepecha) Bilyj who passed away on July 8th.
Born July 25th 1924 in the Ukraine son of the late Ivan & Maria Bilyj. He and his late wife arrived in this country in 1949 settling in Woonsocket.
Celia E. Pelland
CUMBERLAND- Celia E. (Brackett) Pelland, "Skippy" 79, passed away Monday, July 18, 2011 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late William N. Pelland.
Born in Blackstone, MA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Brackett and the late Florence (Cabana) Bousquet.
