WOONSOCKET â Nearly a million gallons of partially treated sewage is thought to have spilled into the Blackstone River when a demolition crew at the burnt-out Seville Dyeing site accidentally ruptured an underground sewer main Friday afternoon, the state environmental agency said.
The effluent is believed to have been streaming unchecked from the broken main for more than 48 hours before a neighbor noticed and called the city's water department, said Angelo Liberti, chief of surface water protection for the state Department of Environmental Management.
Beatrice A. Beaudoin
WOONSOCKET- Beatrice A. Beaudoin 95, formerly of Woodland Rd. died Monday at St. Antoine Residence. She was the wife of the late Herve A. Beaudoin.
Born in Woonsocket, she was a daughter of the late Ludger and Lumina (Lozeau) Poirier.
Therese Beauparlant
WOONSOCKET- Therese Beauparlant 80, formerly of Cumberland and Blackstone, died Sunday in St. Antoine Residence. She was the wife of the late Albert Beauparlant.
She was born in Woonsocket, a daughter of the late Hidas and Laura Gagnon.
Mrs. Beauparlant was a dietary aide for St. Antoine for many years retiring in 1996.
She is survived by her brother Roland Gagnon of Cumberland, her godchild Michelle Fay, many nieces and nephews, and her dearest friend of many years, Marlene Gagnon. She was also the sister of the late Blanche Godin.
Elizabeth I. Listenfelt
WOONSOCKET- Elizabeth I. Listenfelt 78, of Cumberland Hill Rd. died Monday July 25th at Landmark Medical Center. She was the wife of the late Daniel E. Listenfelt Sr.
Mrs. Listenfelt was born in Central Falls a daughter of the late Joseph and Ida (Charpentier) Terrien. She was a homemaker who selflessly gave to others.
Theresa M. Maclure
WOONSOCKET- Theresa M. Maclure 84, of Cooper Ave. died Sunday at Woonsocket Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of the late Gerald Maclure Sr. Mrs. Maclure was born in Woonsocket a daughter of the late Adelbert and Belva Parent. She was a homemaker for most of her life having previously worked for Peterson and Puritan.
She is survived by two sons Gerald Maclure Jr. and Randall Maclure both of Woonsocket, a daughter Sandra O'Donnell of W. Warwick, four grandchildren and one great- grandchild.
Gerard J. Poulin
NASONVILLE- Gerard J. Poulin, 56, resident of Nasonville, died July 29, 2011 at home. He was the husband of the late Darleen M. (Veins) Poulin.
Born March 12, 1955 in Woonsocket, a son of the late Charles and Yvonne (Cazeault) Poulin. Gerard was a Burrillville Resident most of his life.
Gerard worked as a mechanic tech for A & M Compressed Air of Uxbridge. He was a former security guard for Woonsocket Hospital.
He was a member of St. Josephs Veterans an avid fisherman, enjoyed sports but most of all was the time spent with his grandchildren.
Phillip N. Berger
Phillip Nelson "Phil" Berger, 77, of Simsbury, CT, passed peacefully Sunday, July 17, 2011 surrounded by family and friends. Born June 16, 1934 in Newburyport, MA, the beloved son of Victor and Nellie Berger and brother of the late Allan Berger all of Woonsocket, RI.
WEST WARWICK â As Jim Dawber watched a mentally and physically drained Ryan OâDell unleash pitch after pitch, a conclusion to Sundayâs marathon of baseball at McCarthy Stadium unfolded in his mind.
âOh wow,â the Cumberland Post 14 manager thought to himself. âWeâre going to win the championship, and heâs going to win the MVP.ââ
Speaking through visible emotion a short while later, Dawber came to grips with the crushing reality.
âIt didnât play out that way in real life,â he said.
