Cumberland American prepares for N.E. tourney

CUMBERLAND — After a much-deserved 10-day break from competitive baseball, recent state champion Cumberland American begins its quest for a trip to Williamsport, Pa., for the Little League World Series this weekend. The All-Star squad faces Massachusetts’s titlist Andover National Saturday afternoon at 2 in the opener of the New England Regional Tournament at Breen Field in Bristol, Conn.

WOONSOCKET- Paul L. Martel 80, formerly of Fulton St. died Monday at the Trinity Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Woonsocket he was a son of the late Elphege and Eugenie (Marcotte) Martel.
Paul worked at Belmont Woolen Mill, Woonsocket Hospital as a kitchen aide, and Cape Cod Restaurant before retiring in 1980.

Therese O. Cote

BELLINGHAM-- Therese O. Cote 87, of 33 Mann St. died Monday at home. She was the wife of the late Albert C. Cote.
Mrs. Cote was born in Woonsocket a daughter of the late Theophile and Albertine (Harnois) Lamothe.
She was a homemaker for most of her life, and had previously worked at the former Glenoc Mills and Jacob Finklestein and Sons. Therese enjoyed shopping and gardening.

WOONSOCKET- Gerard H. Tessier, 79, of Front St., died Sunday July 31, 2011.
Born in Woonsocket, son of the late Eddy and Beatrice (Bessette) Tessier.
Gerry worked for Auger Men's Wear for 40 years and Donnelley's for 10 years and also Lanoie's for several years before retiring, in 1995.
He is survived by one brother Andr Tessier, of North Smithfield, one sister, Gertrude Tessier, of Woonsocket.
He also was the brother of the late Lucille Anderson and several nieces and nephews.
