SMITHFIELD â€” The strategy was simple. Take it moderately easy the first half of the race and when the course hits the woods for the rolling hills, then go to work.
Thatâ€™s the plan that Mount St. Charles Academy and Smithfield High had entering Mondayâ€™s Northern Division opener on the tough three-mile layout at Bryant University.
Both teams carried out those strategies, though the Mounties did it just a little better.

LINCOLN- Yolande R. (Begin) Landry, 82, of School Street, Albion died Sunday, September 11, 2011 at the Ballou Home, Woonsocket. She was the wife of the late Raoul J. Landry.
Born In Albion, a daughter of the late Rodolphe and Jeanne (Leroux) Begin, she had lived in Albion most of her life. She had also lived in Oakland and North Smithfield.
BURRILLVILLE- Eileen Cahill, 91, died Friday, Sept. 9, 2011 in Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket.
Born in Mapleville, she was the daughter of James and Della (Fournier) Cahill.
Eileen was a lifelong resident of Burrillville. She worked as a housekeeper at Zambarano Hospital and as a mender in area mills.
Joseph J. Krawczyk
ATTELBORO, MA- Joseph J. Krawczyk, 86, of Commonwealth Ave. Passed away on Friday at Miriam Hospital, he was the loving husband of The late Danielle Krawczyk.
Born, Jan. 20, 1925, in Woonsocket, RI, he was The son of the late Steven & Mary (Majder) Krawczyk, he resided in Texas & Woonsocket before moving to Attleboro 3 years ago. For almost 40 years,
Albert J. Violette Jr.
WOONSOCKET- Albert J. Violette Jr., 81, of Bryant St, died Saturday September 10, 2011 in the Hebert Nursing Home. He was the husband of Estelle L. (Plante) Violette. Albert and Estelle were married for 60 years.
Born in Northbridge, MA. son of the late Albert J. and Alia (Paquin) Violette.
Mr. Violet was a machinist for Bro-Gil Co. in Woonsocket, for several years.
He was a United States Navy Veteran.
Mr. Violet was a former member of the Elks.
Albert J. Roy
WOONSOCKET- Albert J. Roy, 59, of Woonsocket, died Saturday, September 10, at Woonsocket Health Center.
Born in Woonsocket, a son of the late Leo and Jeannette (Gagnon) Roy, he had been a lifelong resident of the city.
Mr. Roy was a mechanic for many years, working at Leo's Auto Parts, Arnold Hill Service Station, Millis Used Auto Parts, Countryside Auto Parts and Woonsocket Auto Salvage.
Edgar A. Farland
WOONSOCKET- Edgar A. "Mike" Farland, 79, of Woonsocket, died Wednesday, September 7, 2011 in the Woonsocket Health & Rehabilitation Centre. He was the husband of the late Lorraine A. (Drolet) Farland.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Edgar J. and Leonie A. (Guay) Farland.
Mr. Farland worked as a Meat Manager for Almacs in Blackstone, MA and in Woonsocket from 1955 to 1992. He was a Pilot at North Central Airport in Lincoln for five years. He was a member of the Honda Gold Wing Motorcycle Club and enjoyed boating and golfing.
NO. SMITHFIELD- Jacqueline V. Laliberte, formerly Jacqueline V. Frigon, 72, of School St., Slatersville, died Wednesday, September 7, 2011 after a long illness. She was the former wife of Robert O. Frigon.
Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of Gilberta (Briere)Laliberte of Manville and the late Rene Laliberte.
Mrs. Frigon-Laliberte was a housewife and a lifelong resident of Slatersville. She was a former secretary of the Colonial Village Resident Association and past President of Woonsocket Jay C-Ettes.
