WOONSOCKET â Itâs been said time and time again in sports that if you want to be the best, you have the beat the best.
On Tuesday afternoon, Woonsocket played what many high school enthusiasts believe is âthe team to beatâ in Division II, defending state champ Smithfield, and while the Novans didnât come away with a victory, they picked up the next best thing â a draw.
PROVIDENCE â State employees and schoolteachers âpossess implied unilateral contract rightsâ to their pension benefits, a Superior Court judge ruled Tuesday, keeping alive a lawsuit challenging previous changes made in state pension laws and further complicating ongoing efforts to make more changes that General Treasurer Gina Raimondo says are necessary to avert a fiscal calamity.
WOONSOCKET â Using about $158,000 in drug forfeiture money, the Woonsocket Police Department has ordered seven new vehicles to replace some of the oldest cruisers and detective cars in its fleet. Capt. Kenneth Paulhus said five 2011 Ford Fusions were ordered for the detectives, while the patrol division will get two 2012 Crown Victorias.
John H. Luttrell Sr.
NATICK, MA- John H. Luttrell Sr., 87, formerly of Natick, died Tuesday September 13, 2011 at Wayland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Cochituate.
He was born in Woonsocket, R.I., on Nov. 6, 1923, son of the late John M. and Eva (Brouillard) Luttrell, and attended local schools before becoming a newspaper copy boy for the Woonsocket Call.
A veteran of World War II, he served as an intelligence specialist with the Army Air Corps in the European Theater.

BLACKSTONE- Diane M. (Matthews) Sulima, 55, of Blackstone, MA passed away on September 10, 2011.

Simone P. Ward
WOONSOCKET- Simone P. (Mousseau) Ward, 88, of Achille Street, Woonsocket, a lifelong city resident, died peacefully at Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket, Sept. 13, 2011, surrounded by the family she loved deeply and devoted her life to.
Simone joins her beloved and eternal husband, Dr. Bernard V. "Vinnie" Ward, a city dentist who passed away May 10, 1988.
She was born Sept. 19, 1922 and was the daughter of the late Albert and Sarah (Page) Mousseau.
Ellen M. Scanlon
WOONSOCKET- Ellen M. (Wiberg) Scanlon 64, of Woonsocket, died Tuesday at home. She was the wife of Maurice Scanlon.
She was born in Boston the daughter of the late Elmer and Lillian (Gerasin) Wiberg.
She was a pricer for Mark Stevens in Woonsocket for many years.
Lucienne R.
Levasseur
WOONSOCKET- Lucienne R. (Ouellette) Levasseur 89, of Woonsocket, died Monday in Oakland Grove Health Center, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Joseph Levasseur.
She was born in Trois Rivieres, PQ Canada, a daughter of the late Lucien and Emelienne (Levesque) Ouellette.
Mrs. Levasseur was a loving wife and mother and a dedicated homemaker.
Pasquale Olivastro
WOONSOCKET- Pasquale Olivastro, 89, of Tache St. died Tuesday, September 6, 2011. He was the husband of the late Thelma (Glaude) Olivastro.
Born in Woonsocket, son of the late Paul and Rose (Abatatuano) Olivastro.
Mr. Olivastro worked as a foreman for HP Hood and also as an assembler for Bird Machine Shop for 20 yrs. and as a custodian for the Stadium Theater.
He was a former member of ISECT, and the Woonsocket Senior Center.
James T. Daniel
BELLINGHAM- James T. "Jim" Daniel, 60, of Bellingham, MA passed away at home on Friday, September 2, 2011 with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband for 30 years of Debra (Niadna) Daniel.
Born in Pawtucket, RI on May 28, 1951, he was the son of John and Simonne (Tancrede) Daniel of St. Petersburg, FL.
