City employee turns self in to police to face fraud charges

WOONSOCKET — On Friday morning at around 7:30, Michelle Giguere, 41, a city employee, turned herself in at the Woonsocket Police Station after having had an arrest warrant for Unlawful Appropriation (over $1,000) and Computer Access for Fraudulent Purposes. The arrest warrant was obtained after a lengthy investigation by the Woonsocket Police Detective Division.

Several 9/11 observances throughout the Valley on Sunday

Veterans groups, first responders and civic officials from around the Valley will mark 9/11 with special Masses, prayer services and tributes on Sunday. Here is a roundup of the planned observances, arranged by the community.

— The Major Walter Gatchell VFW Post 306 will conduct a ceremony at the post home, 171 Fountain Street, Pawtucket, Sunday at 11 a.m. Coffee and pastry will be served.

E.P. gridders whip Woonsocket

EAST PROVIDENCE --- Jalin Braxton and East Providence High ran away with this season opener.
The Second-Team All-State fullback picked up 153 yards and a pair of long touchdowns on 11 first-half carries on Friday night to guide the Townies to a convincing 42-0 non-league victory over Woonsocket High at Pierce Field.
The Townies scored on each of their first four possessions of the contest and ended the opening half with 255 yards on the ground and a 28-0 command.

Kory Lawrence 'saves' Woonsocket win

WOONSOCKET – For the first three quarters of Friday’s game, Woonsocket High goalie Kory Lawrence didn’t have to contend with too many shots fired his way by opposing Mount Pleasant.
But when the Kilties picked up their intensity a few extra notches in the crucial stage of the tilt, and Lawrence was called to action, the Villa Novan senior delivered.

WOONSOCKET- Kayden Andre Smith, 2 month old, became an angel of God, on September 4, 2011.
Born in Woonsocket, Kayden was the beloved son of David Smith and Amanda LeBlanc.
Kayden is also survived by his paternal grandmother David and Lisa Smith Sr. Maternal grandparents Andre and Jody LeBlanc. Paternal great-grandmother Carol Smith and maternal great-grandmother, Eleanor C. Potter.
He also was the great grandson of the late Harold H. Potter Sr. and Robert Leblanc, and Rejane LeBlanc.

CENTRAL FALLS- Hilda Gonsalves, 91, formerly of Madeira Avenue, passed away Thursday at Steere House Nursing and Rehabilitation in Providence. She was the wife of the late John Gonsalves Sr.
Born in Insua, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Francisco and Maria Pinto.
She resided in Central Falls for several years, previously residing in Valley Falls.
She leaves her son, John Gonsalves Jr. of Boston, MA.
The family would like to thank Steere House Nursing and Rehabilitation for their compassionate care of Hilda.

MANVILLE- Robert J. Bouvier, 73, of Old River Rd. died September 5, 2011, in the Home & Hospice Care of R.I. Bob was the companion of 30 years to Linda Pendergast, of Manville.
Born in Whitinville, MA, son of the late Albert C. and Antoinette (Belanger) Bouvier.
Bob worked as a Machinist for D&B Machine in Cumberland, for several years.
He was a United States Navy Veteran.

WOONSOCKET- Cecile (Godbout) Richards, 77, of Diamond Hill Rd., passed away Monday, September 5, 2011 in Landmark Medical Center. She was the wife of Thomas D. Richards, III.
Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late William and Aurore (Curtis) Godbout.
Prior to retiring in 1996, Mrs. Richards worked as a molder for Polytop Corporation, No. Smithfield. She also worked at Tupperware Corporation for many years. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, bingo, going to yard sales and spending time with family.
