PROVIDENCE â Six months since her shocking win in the high jump at last yearâs outdoor state meet, Kaylnn Pitts was back in her element.
The indoor track & field season began in early December but for the Woonsocket High sophomore on Thursday night it was her first time competing in the vertical leap. Although she has been able to long jump and sprint for the Villa Novans, a tender knee suffered during the fallâs volleyball season has kept Pitts away from the high jump area.
WOONSOCKET --- Offensively, Mount St. Charles Academy is sixth out of the stateâs nine teams in goals scored, and defensively, the Mounties are one of four teams to have surrendered fewer than 10 goals.
But thereâs one huge reason why the Mounties are sitting atop the standings with a 5-0 mark and looking like a potent squad in excellent shape to defend their state championship come March.
âI think we have the depth that any team in the league would envy,â offered MSC coach Steve Shea. âI feel like we have depth at every position, which is very nice to have.â

BLACKSTONE- Paulette A. Fanning 73, of Fox Brook Manor died Tuesday at Lydia Taft House in Uxbridge. she was the wife of the late Ross P. Fanning.
Mrs. Fanning was born in Woonsocket a daughter of the late Arthur and Cora (Lemieux) Gravel. She worked in the cafeteria at Blackstone Millville Jr. Sr. High School for ten years, and then at CVS Corporate office retiring in 2000.

Dolores T. DeCosta
CUMBERLAND- Dolores T. DeCosta, 81 of formerly of One Mendon Road passed away Sunday in Palms West Hospital, Loxahatchee, FL. She was the wife of the late George DeCosta.
Born in Central Falls, she was the daughter of the late Arthur J. and Florence (Beauchamp) Palin. She resided Loxahatchee for the past 6 years previously residing in Cumberland for 45 years and New Bedford, MA.
She was a member of the Amalgamated Cotton and Garment Allied Industry Union for 26 years, the Cumberland Housing Authority and the AARP.
Elizabeth A. Flynn
WOONSOCKET- Elizabeth "Lisa" A. Flynn, of Woonsocket, RI, died December 19, 2010.
She was born in Newark, NJ on June 18, 1963, a daughter of the late Joseph and Nancy (Burgess) Flynn.
Miss Flynn lost her fight against pancreatic cancer at age 47, and she was surrounded by friends and family that loved her dearly. Miss Flynn was a Customer Service Manager in education finance for Citizens Bank for ten years before retiring in September due to illness.

WOONSOCKET- John R. Young 60, of So. Main St. passed away on December 23, at his home, he was the husband of Mary (Boulris) Young.
Born Dec. 18, 1950, in Pawtucket, RI, he was the son of the late Robert & Roselyn (Grady) Young

We will have some baseball news to savor this afternoon when the Hall of Fame balloting is revealed to the public. Roberto Alomar and Bert Blyleven are expected to get into the HOF today. Several other players are on the cusp â Jeff Bagwell, Larry Walker, Jack Morris and Tim Raines.
Rafael Palmeiro could make it, too, if the voters forgive him for telling Congress he never did steroids and then flunking a urine test several months later, late in his career, long after he had amassed most of his 569 career home runs.
