By all accounts, January is the slowest month on the baseball calendar. Itâs the month that follows the hustle and bustle of the player acquisition crunch and the month prior to spring training with the backdrop of warm, picturesque conditions in Florida and Arizona.
NORTH SMITHFIELD â A con man who has been on the run from the law for two years after swindling thousands from his victims in motor vehicle scams was captured in New Jersey Wednesday, the Rhode Island State Police said.
Kevin Millette, 45, a former town resident, was arrested at the Rodeway Inn motel in Galloway, N.J., where he had been living under an assumed name for about month, said State Police Lt. Michael Winquist.
WOONSOCKET â The state Supreme Court Thursday affirmed the conviction of Gilbert Delestre in connection with the brutal beating death of his 3-year-old foster child, Thomas âT.J.â Wright, in 2004.
Delestre and his girlfriend, Katherine Bunnell, the childâs foster mother and aunt, were both convicted of murder and conspiracy for their role in the boyâs killing after separate trials in 2008.
Witnesses testified Delestre hurled the toddler across a room, then knocked him down a flight of stairs with a backhander, causing the boy to lapse into unconsciousness.
Edna F. Sparling
THOMPSON - Edna F. (Place) Sparling, 88, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012 in Matulaitus Nursing Home, Putnam, CT. She lived with her daughter, Joan, in Thompson, CT.
Born in Burrillville, RI, she was the daughter of the late William and Leah (Mowry) Place.
She worked as a Clerk at the former Speidel in East Providence before retiring in 1985.
Gisele Giguere
NORTH PORT, FL- Gisele (Cloutier) Giguere, age 81, passed away on December 31, 2011 at her home in North Port, FL surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Woonsocket, RI on April 21, 1930.
Gisele is survived by her husband of 60 years, Robert Giguere, son David of Guilford, CT and two daughters, Diane Auger, of Manville, RI and Donna Lavallee of Mapleville, RI. Gisele was the daughter of the late Alphonse & Aldea Cloutier.
