Mount girls blank Cranston co-op

January 13, 2012

PROVIDENCE --- The state finals won’t be held for another two months, but that didn’t stop two-time defending champion Mount St. Charles from feeling right at home in a rare regular-season affair at Providence College’s Schneider Arena, the home of the RIIL hockey championships.
Senior Caitlin Shea and freshman Elisabeth Bedard each netted a pair of goals and senior Lauren Levesque added a goal and two assists on Friday night to lead the Mounties to a dominant 5-0 win over the Cranston Thunderbirds co-op team.

Fugere gets Woonsocket healthy in victory

WOONSOCKET – There is always plenty that can be learned from a loss.
Coming off a 15-point setback to East Providence just a few days earlier, Woonsocket used its added knowledge from that contest to its advantage on Friday night and earned a decisive 54-31 victory over a young Lincoln squad at Savaria Gymnasium.
Kailey Fugere, who was out with the flu in the Novans’ 54-39 loss to the Townies back on Tuesday, was back in the lineup. Still not 100 percent, Fugere finished with an all-around strong game for the Novans with 26 points, 10 rebounds, five steals and four blocks.

PAWTUCKET --- Alex Wilson knows all about the rags-to-riches tale of Kurt Warner, the former Super Bowl-winning St. Louis Rams quarterback and NFL MVP, who just a few years prior to his breakout ’99 season, had worked part-time as a stockboy at a supermarket during his climb to stardom.
That’s because from October to December, the Boston Red Sox prospect had spent his weekday mornings making a few extra bucks by stocking shelves at a Lowe’s home improvement store near his Hurricane, W.V. residence.

PAWTUCKET – It’s often viewed as the last frontier for young hitters to conquer, that of strike-zone recognition. In Alex Hassan’s case, the promising Red Sox outfield prospect is well ahead of the curve, so much so that some of his peers could stand to benefit from his calculated attack.
