PROVIDENCE – The Baltimore Ravens aren’t the only tough-as-nails outfit to invade Downtown Providence this weekend.
Saturday night saw a Marquette team that has built its reputation as a take-no-prisoners beast basically body slam Providence to the canvas. The punishment took its toll on the Friars, particularly in the second half when Ed Cooley’s club could not perform the simple act of putting the ball into the hoop.

Simon Ratsamy, 18, was busy clearing his mom's driveway on Park Avenue during Saturday's snowstorm in Woonsocket. The snow was persistent all day long, with the storm leaving upwards of 5 inches on the ground.

10 graduate from health care career program

WOONSOCKET — Ten motivated Northern Rhode Island residents celebrated their recent completion of the Stepping Up Health Care Career Orientation Program at a graduation ceremony Wednesday at the Connec-ting for Children and Families’ (CCF) Chaplin-Perez Community Center.
On hand to salute the graduates were U.S. Senator Jack Reed and Matt Wojcik, Woonsocket’s director of Human Services and Economic Development, who represented Mayor Leo T. Fontaine.

City man indicted for rape, robbery

WOONSOCKET – A man tied to two cold cases of rape after police recently obtained a sample of his DNA while he was incarcerated for an unrelated offense was indicted by a Providence County grand jury on Friday.
Armand J. Ferrio, 25, of 186 South Main St., is charged with three counts of first-degree sexual assault and one count of first-degree robbery.

Burrillville falls to La Salle, 2-0, in tourney final

BURRILLVILLE — A day earlier, La Salle Academy and host Burrillville HIgh had no problems in their opening-round games of the Burrillville Education Foundation Tournament.
It was a different story in the championship finals Saturday night.
The two Division I schools played a back-and-forth affair for three periods inside the Levy Rink. Unfortunately for the Broncos, the Rams managed to squeeze in two shots between the posts and skate off the ice with a hard-earned 2-0 win.

Randall takes talents to Old Dominion golf team

It’s taken a while, but winter appears to have finally arrived here in New England with the recent snow that has blanked our region.
The weather has been a little different for recent Cumberland High grad and talented golfer Jamison Randall, a freshman at Old Dominion University in Virginia.
“It’s better than New England,” said Randall, via the phone on Saturday morning. “It’s much warmer. In fact, I’m playing golf (today).”
