WOONSOCKET â€“ State Police, members of the Woonsocket Police Depart-ment, and agents of the Rhode Island Division of Taxation conducted raids at two city convenience stores Thursday that resulted in the arrest of the owners of the businesses, according to Colonel Steven G. Oâ€™Donnell, Superintendent of the State Police and Commissioner of the Department of Public Safety.
WOONSOCKET â€“ Former city employee Michelle Giguere admitted to embezzling over $7,714 from the municipal treasury during a hearing in Superior Court on Wednesday.
Magistrate Susan Kenney ordered Giguere to serve a suspended sentence of three years and to repay the money she stole.
Finance Director Thomas M. Bruce III said he was satisfied that the punishment fits the crime and praised Giguereâ€™s co-workers for blowing the whistle on her when they suspected Giguere of mishandling money.
LINCOLN â€” A Town Council forum on the expansion of Twin River into table gaming drew some concerns over the proposal Thursday evening but overall proved a favorable showcase of the casino's revenue contributions to state and local budgets.
The plus side included projections that 100 of Twin River's 900 jobs are held by local residents and another 800 by Rhode Islanders overall, and also a forecast that the expansion will create 350 new in-house jobs along with 300 others in supporting businesses.
Constance T. Gauthier
WOONSOCKET- Constance T. (Robert) Gauthier, 79, of Front St., passed away suddenly on October 5, 2012. She had been the beloved wife of the late Rene Gauthier.
Born in Woonsocket and a lifelong resident, she was the daughter of the late Aime and Doris (Guertin) Robert.
Constance had worked in the former Beaupre's Pharmacy as a cashier. Connie, as her friends called her, will be greatly missed.
Carol Ann Pero
SANTEE, CA- Former Woonsocket, RI resident, Carol Ann Pero, 62, died September 29th 2012 at the Stanford Court Nursing Center in Santee, CA.
Ms. Pero was born December 3rd, 1949 in Woonsocket to Edgar M. Pero, Sr. and Lida B. (Bell) Pero, both of Woonsocket.
Linda A. Benoit
UXBRIDGE- Linda A. (Carolo) Benoit, 52, of Uxbridge died on October 1, 2012 at home surrounded by many of her loved ones after a nearly 2 year courageous battle against breast cancer.
She was born Feb. 5, 1960 in Woonsocket, RI, the first daughter of Robert M. and Lucille (Ayotte) Carolo of Uxbridge.
HUNTSVILLE, ALABAMA- Angelina (Tootsie) Giguere, age 91, of Huntsville, Alabama, and formerly of Milford, Connecticut, passed away on Thursday, October 4, 2012. She was the widow of Antonio D Giguere, who was the former Finance Director for the city of Milford.
Mrs. Giguere was born on April 26, 1921 in North Adams, Massachusetts to the late John and Veronica (Charron) Sebastino.
Phyllis G. Bolduc
SORRENTO, FL- Phyllis G. Bolduc 89, of Sorrento, FL passed away on September 23, 2012.
She was born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island and moved here from Alton, New Hampshire in 1978.
She is survived by her son Stephen Bolduc of Sorrento. Mrs. Bolduc was predeceased by her husband Alfred in 2009.
An informal gathering and interment for both Mr. and Mrs. Bolduc will be in Franklin, Massachusetts on the afternoon of Monday, October 22. For details visit our website
