PROVIDENCE â Movie and TV star James Woods appeared at the Statehouse Wednesday to testify in favor of a bill that would allow doctors and hospitals to express sympathy or acknowledge errors to patients and family members when medical treatment goes awry without it being held against them in later court actions.
BURRILLVILLE â History has been extremely good to the Burrillville/Ponaganset co-op team when it comes to playing Barringtonâs East Bay co-op squad.
Even since Barrington joined the girlsâ hockey varsity ranks eight years ago, the Broncos have had the Eaglesâ number. They own a 12-2 record against them, and a five-game win streak that has seen the Eagles strengthen their numbers by adding Mount Hope and Portsmouth to its co-op squad, yet the Broncos still win each time by five or more goals.
NORTH SMITHFIELD â After a rather sloppy initial half, one in which it registered 15 turnovers and had serious issues netting a bucket, North Smithfield High head coach Alisha Brannon took her troops aside and told them simply to calm down and think.
âBasically, we have a tendency to rush on offense, and the first half was a classic example,â she said. âThey try to pass too quickly or dribble past (defenders). At halftime, I told them to quit rushing and spread the floor.
Madeleine B. Cardin
WOONSOCKET- Madeleine B. (Crepeau) Cardin, 91, 100 Front Street, Woonsocket, passed away February 27 at home, after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Jules J. Cardin, Sr. married for 64 years.
Born Feb 24, 1921 in Woonsocket, daughter of the late Adgenard Crepeau and Marie Anne (Julien) Crepeau.
Roger Valois
MANVILLE- Roger Valois, 83, of Central Street, died Tuesday, February 28, at home. He was the husband of Estelle (Cartier) Valois.
Born in the Manville village of Lincoln, a son of the late Joseph and Blandine (Valois) Valois, he was a lifelong resident of the village.
Mr. Valois was a mechanical contractor for Manville Mechanical Services, retiring in 2009.
Shirley S. Morris
BURRILLVILLE- Shirley S. (Vose) Morris, 84, of Burrillville, died Wednesday, February 29, 2012 in Overlook Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Burrillville. She was the wife of the late Francis R. Morris, whom she married October 5, 1946.
Born in Cumberland, RI, she was the daughter of the late Ornando F. and Madeline (Slocum) Vose. Shirley lived in Cumberland Hill for 19 years, Berkeley for 39 years and in Burrillville for 26 years.
William David
McDonald
PASCOAG- McDONALD, William David, 57, of Pascoag, RI, expert mechanic, Arc volunteer and Desert Storm veteran, died Sunday morning, February 26, 2012. He was the loving husband of Robin L. (Marnoch) McDonald, whom he married in 1979.
He also is survived by three loving children, Megan Byers, Justice McDonald and Michael McDonald; and 11 grandchildren.
Claire L. Surprenant
NORTH SMITHFIELD- Claire L. Surprenant (Bonin), 72 of North Smithfield passed away unexpectedly, February 27, 2012, at Landmark Hospital. She was the beloved wife of Roger J. Surprenant, Sr. for 51 years and the daughter of the late Armand and Alice Bonin.
She has long since been retired from the textile industry.

WOONSOCKET -- For a team that owns a magnificent 17-1 record and has outshot its opponents by an imposing 91-12 count, itâs safe to say that Mount St. Charles hasnât experienced too many long nights at the office this season.
But there has been one team that has made life somewhat challenging for the Mounties throughout the season, and itâs not the one that topped them back in mid-December, but the one that came awfully close to doing so in each of its three meetings with the defending champs.
PROVIDENCE â In preparation for Tuesdayâs game against the Jim Calhoun-less UConn Huskies, Ed Cooley took his club to the movies. The screening didnât include popcorn and soda, rather visual evidence to demonstrate just how far Cooleyâs PC Friars have come from a mediocre showing in an exhibition game to this past weekendâs last-second escape job at DePaul.
