Man arrested for attempted murder

WOONSOCKET — A city man was arrested at a North Smithfield motel Wednesday on an attempted murder charge after allegedly slashing two others in a bloody feud outside a convenience store earlier this week.
Alvin Huggins, 28, was taken into custody at Traveler’s Motor Lodge by members of the North Smithfield and Woonsocket police departments, said Detective Lt. Eugene Jalette. Police seized a steak knife and a blood-stained sneaker from his room at the motel, located at 1210 Eddie Dowling Highway.

Landmark/Blue Cross mediator identified

WOONSOCKET – A veteran Providence litigator has agreed to serve as mediator in attempts to resolve some vexing legal claims between Landmark Medical Center and Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Rhode Island that could affect the sale of the teetering hospital.
William Dolan III is general counsel and chief legal officer for Brown Rudnick LLC, a firm with more than 200 lawyers in five U.S. cities and two more in Europe.

Man hurt in fall from bridge

Rescue personnel prepare to take a man to Rhode Island Hospital after he reportedly jumped or fell from the Court Street Bridge Wednesday. Police Capt. Edward Lee said the incident occuring just before 5 p.m. remained under investigation. The man landed in the parking lot behind the Allen Street Condominiums between the Main Street bypass and the Blackstone River. Lee said the man was conscious at the scene while being assisted by rescue personnel, but did not have further information on his condition Wednesday evening.
