WOONSOCKET â The company that wants to buy Landmark Medical Center is seeking to add new contingencies to the original terms of the sale to allow for the possibility that maternity and psychiatric wards could be eliminated, along with the personnel needed to run them.
Steward Health Care Systemâs original asset purchase agreement, or APA, is scheduled to expire on Friday. But the parties are due back in Superior Court that morning on a motion to extend the agreement and incorporate the new terms with the potential, at least, to become dealbreakers for Steward.
Gloria M. Kane
WOONSOCKET- Gloria M. Kane, 86, of Clinton St., died Tuesday, March 6, 2012 in St. Antoine Residence, No. Smithfield.
Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late George C. and Laura (Gauthier) Kane.
Gloria worked as a social service provider for the former Woonsocket Hospital, now Landmark Hospital, until her retirement. She was a devoted parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo Church. Gloria was very proud of her Irish heritage and had a great sense of humor.
Donna M. Marshall
PASCOAG- Donna M. (Whitney) Marshall, 64, of Pascoag, passed away Monday, March 5, 2012. She was the wife of the late Anthony Marshall.
Born in Norwood, MA, she was a daughter of the late Elroy and Irene (King) Whitney.
Mrs. Marshall lived in Woonsocket for over 20 years before moving to Pascoag in 2005. She worked for Valley Transportation for 3 years, Hasbro in Pawtucket and the former Rosecraft Jewelry Co. before retiring. She was devoted to her family and touched many lives.
PAWTUCKET (AP) â Toy maker Hasbro on Tuesday laid off 55 employees in Rhode Island, part of a larger downsizing that comes just months after announcing an expansion into Providence, company officials said.
Company spokesman Wayne Charness said in a statement that about 170 workers are being laid off worldwide because of the âunderperformanceâ in Hasbro's U.S. and Canadian divisions, which are under new leadership. He also cited the company's need for âdifferent skill setsâ in its workforce.
The layoffs will affect workers in Pawtucket and Providence.
