On Wednesday, the URI community rolled out the red carpet – or maybe it was Keaney blue – as a symbolic token to welcome new head coach Dan Hurley and his family. To enlighten the masses regarding the kind of coach and person that Rhode Island is getting in Hurley, we engaged in a background check that conjured all sorts of positive vibrations.

BLACKSTONE- Lucienne A. (Deblois) Brisson, 87, of Blackstone, MA passed away on Monday, March 19, 2012 at Rhode Island Hospital with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Marcel R. Brisson.
Born in Woonsocket, RI on September 28, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Napoleon and Olina (Picard) Deblois.

WOONSOCKET- Helene A. (Latraverse) LaBarre 85, died Tuesday, March 20 in the Roger Williams Medical Center. She was the wife of the late Herve A. LaBarre.
She was an inspector for the Electric Molding Co. for eighteen years retiring in1988. Mrs. LaBarre was a volunteer at the St. Antoine Residence for many years, and regularly attended the Adult Day Care Program of Sr. Services in Woonsocket.

CUMBERLAND- Gerald A. Gingras, 76, of Cumberland, died Sunday March 18, 2012, in Landmark Medical Center, with his family by his side.
He was the husband of Lucille (Dubois) Gingras.
Born in Woonsocket, son of the late Roland and Anna (Pincince) Gingras.
Mr. Gingras was a United States Army Veteran.
He worked as a Baker for the Former Fernandes Super Market for 35 years, and also for Leo's Bakery, and Rojacks.

WOONSOCKET- Marie Flora Stewart 90, formerly of 218 Pond St. died Monday at The Friendly Home.
Born in Woonsocket, she was a daughter of the late Edmund and Eva (Paquin) Ouillette. She was an assembler for the Royal Electric Co. for many years, retiring in 1983.

Mayor may ask unions to take 10% cut

WOONSOCKET – Mayor Leo T. Fontaine says he’s advised the major employees unions representing police, fire and teachers that he might ask them for a 10 percent pay cut to help close a $10 million gap in the School Department’s budget.
But whether he follows through depends on what happens tonight, when the City Council takes up a resolution to borrow some $4.3 million on the anticipation of collecting supplemental taxes.

Habitual police taunter finally gets arrested

WOONSOCKET — When police arrested 27-year-old Maurice Godin on drug charges last week, they didn’t just get their man.
They got the last laugh.
Strange as it seems, Godin made no effort to keep his illicit behavior a secret from the authorities. On the contrary, police say he had a history of boasting directly to police officers about being a “good drug dealer” and sometimes berated them for being unable to catch him.

WOONSOCKET- Robert P. Biagetti, 56, passed away Monday, March, 19 at Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Alvaro and Lauretta (Sylvestre) Biagetti. He resided in Woonsocket for most of his life, previously residing in Lincoln.
Mr. Biagetti was employed as an Machinist for the Senior Aerospace Metal Bellows of Sharon, MA for 35 years.
Mr. Biagetti was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, but most of all loved fishing.

ELIZABETH, CO- William James Marshall III, (Billy), 65, passed into eternal life on Tuesday, March 13th at The Denver Hospice in Colorado. He was the husband of Irene (Masse) Marshall for 46 years and they lived in Elizabeth, CO.
He was born to the late William James Jr. and Dorothea (Gryzboska) Marshall on December 27, 1946 in Milford, MA.
