PROVIDENCE — Woonsocket Mayor Leo Fontaine, Council President John Ward and Finance Director Thomas Bruce spent Tuesday afternoon trying to convince the House Finance Committee that a 13 percent supplemental tax in the city would not be just a stopgap measure to temporarily forestall the inevitable appointment of a state budget commission or receiver a few weeks or months down the road.

Chafee tours city print shop

WOONSOCKET — As part of his campaign to gather feedback from small businesses, Gov. Lincoln Chafee toured a family-owned print shop here Tuesday.
Accompanied by members of the Northern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce, Chafee spent about 45 minutes at Sheahan Printing, where workers led him past clattering machines and pallets stacked with finished brochures, pamphlets and posters.

WOONSOCKET- Therese Dufault, 84, of Woonsocket, passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2012. She was the wife of the late Conrad L. Dufault. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on September 20, 1997.
Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Leandre and Aurore (Pellerin) Pelland.
Mrs. Dufault worked in Woonsocket as a stitcher for many years and also for Alsace, "The Guerin Mills", East School Street, Woonsocket for eight years.

HOLBROOK, MA- Theodore J. Dziok, Jr., 63, of Holbrook, died suddenly May 13, 2012.
Born in Woonsocket, having grown up in Blackstone, Ted was the son of the late Theodore and Elizabeth (Szpakowski) Dziok. He lived in Holbrook, MA for the past 10 years.
He worked for Above All Transportation in Canton, MA for 18 years, most recently as their Fleet Manager. Mr. Dziok had served in The United States Navy.
