WOONSOCKET --- Mount St. Charles got a âDâ for its defense on Thursday afternoon.
The Mounties committed a half dozen errors in its Division I crossover showdown with North Kingstown, and while those miscues led to only two unearned runs, that turned out to be the difference in the visiting Skippersâ 7-5 victory that gave the Division I-South leaders their sixth straight win.
This game was a neat back-and-forth affair until the Skippers (8-1) rallied for three runs in the top of the fifth inning to claim their two-run lead.
BLACKSTONE â The historic East Blackstone Quaker Meeting House is celebrating its 200th anniversary this year. The burial grounds date back to 1799 and the Meeting House located at 197 Elm St. was built in 1812.
The East Blackstone Quaker Meeting House and Cemetery Historical Association will be celebrating this major milestone with events throughout the year, including a series of ecumenical services that kicks off this weekend.
Noella A. Lambert
WOONSOCKET- Noella A. (Cote) Lambert 92, formerly of Brookhaven Condominiums, died Thursday at The Ballou Home for the Aged. She was the wife of the late Jean Aime Lambert whom she married June 7, 1948 in St. Ann's Church.
Born in Woonsocket, August 25, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Louis Philippe and Laetitia (Guay) Cote.
Noella was a medical secretary for Drs. Catello Scarano and Auray Fontaine for many years. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church and a graduate of Presentation of Mary Academy, in Hudson, NH.
Ronald B. Hubert
UXBRIDGE- Ronald B. Hubert 76, of Country Squire Rd. died Wednesday at University of Massachusetts Medical Center. He was the husband of Suzanne A. (Paulhus) Hubert.
Born in Woonsocket he was a son of the late Herve and Aldea (Giguere) Hubert. Ronald was a US Army Veteran. He was a machinist for Electric Boat for nineteen years retiring nineteen years ago.
Besides his wife he leaves a daughter, Tennille Monteiro and her husband Emanuel of Woonsocket, and four grandchildren, Ariana, Blake, Caleb, and Addison.
Arthur J. Lecuivre
WOONSOCKET- Arthur J. Lecuivre, 90, of Paradis Avenue, Woonsocket, died Tuesday, May 1, 2012. He was the husband of the late Virginia A. (Shea) Lecuivre who were blessed with 50 years of marriage.
Born in Woonsocket he was the son of the late Vital Lecuivre and Irma (Senn) Lecuivre. Arthur was a lifelong resident of the city.
Mr. Lecuivre attended Woonsocket High School, graduated from Hill College (accounting), worked for UniRoyal for 33 years, worked for OIC of RI and retired from Roger Williams Hospital in 1987. Arthur had a fulfilled 25 years of retirement life.
Lillian M. Salome
WOONSOCKET- Lillian M. (Koury) Salome, 85, of Woonsocket, died May 1, 2012 in St. Antoine's Residence. She was the wife of the late James L. Salome.
Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Jamelia (Lataash) Koury.
Mrs. Salome worked for the Woonsocket Call for twenty years, beginning as proof reader and retiring as a copy editor in 1987. Lillian was a member of St. Elias Melkite Greek Catholic Church.
PAWTUCKET(AP) â Pawtucket police say they were defending themselves when they killed a Massachusetts man who pulled a gun on them during a traffic stop.
Two police officers shot the man several times on Sherman Street shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday. Authorities say they stopped the man because he appeared to match the description of a suspect wanted by Massachusetts state police for an assault with a firearm earlier in the day.
