WOONSOCKET — If there’s a breath of life left in a House bill that would allow the city to levy a 13 percent supplemental tax bill, the Budget Commission intends to find out.
During its second meeting in Harris Hall Tuesday, the five-member, state-appointed panel now handling the city’s finances unanimously passed a resolution urging the House to pass the legislation immediately.
WOONSOCKET — The city woman who abandoned another in a snowbank after a 2011 hit-and-run somehow persuaded the victim to write a letter to the court requesting leniency.
She didn’t get it.
Rejecting the recommendations of prosecutors, Superior Court Judge Netti Vogel Tuesday sentenced Besty J. Feliciano, 33, to 10 years in prison, with one to serve and two years home confinement. The balance of the sentenced was suspended, with probation.

NORTH SMITHFIELD- Robert E. Tainsh, Sr., 87, resident of North Smithfield, passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2012 at his home with his family by his side.
Born in Dracut, MA, he was a son of the late John G. and Helen E. (Sweeney) Tainsh, Sr.
Denise J. Beauchemin
CUMBERLAND- Denise J. Beauchemin, 78 of Thomas Leighton Blvd., passed away Monday at the Oakland Grove Nursing Home, Woonsocket.
Born in Woonsocket she was the daughter of the late Willie H. and Elzire (Lamothe) Beauchemin
She resided in Cumberland for 47 years, previously residing in Woonsocket.
Ms. Beauchemin was employed as Sales Clerk for the Kornstein Department Store, Woonsocket, previously employed by Bell Telephone and Shephard Department Store.
She was a communicant of the St. John Vianney Church, Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland.
Eugene O. Brillon
WOONSOCKET- Eugene O. Brillon, 81, formerly of Second Ave., Woonsocket, died Sunday June 3, 2012 at St. Antoine Nursing Home. He was the husband of the late Pauline Brillon (Joly) son of the late Alphonse and Aldea Brillon.
William E. Javarey Jr.
ASHEVILLE, NC- William E. Javarey Jr., 76, died on May 3 at his home in Asheville, NC. He was the son of the late William and Ruth (Tedford) Javarey of Woonsocket.
He leaves his wife Jeneva and two sons, Robert and David as well as grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Born May 8, 1935 in Cumberland, RI, Mr. Javarey served in the U.S. Air Force from 1956-60 and had a long career as a mechanical engineer, retiring in 2005.
Anita M. Leduc
LINCOLN- Anita M. Leduc, 97, passed away on June 3, 2012 at The Holiday Retirement Home in Lincoln, RI.
Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Giovanni and Anide (Franceschi) Lomi.
She was the loving and caring wife to the late Bertrand Leduc.
She worked in area textiles all her life. She loved to play BINGO and enjoyed hooking rugs. Before residing at The Holiday, Anita was also a resident at the Waterview Apartments on Privilege Street in Woonsocket.
WOONSOCKET — He was an honor student and the valedictorian of his high school class. He served in the military as a member of the famed 101st Airborne Division. He became a church deacon and an advocate for the poor.
But on a cold February night in 1994, Donald Graham was on a road to ruinous violence that would leave another man dead and his own life in shambles.
PROVIDENCE — Gov. Lincoln Chafee declared Monday that “this is a new day at EDC,” because the RI Economic Development Corp. will start being more cautious about the way it doles out taxpayers’ money.
“We’ve been scorched; we’ve been burned, as it stands now,” Chafee acknowledged. “Rhode Islanders should know I am conservative by nature with every dollar and I always have been, as a mayor, as a (U.S.) senator, as a governor. There is going to be a full analysis before any investment is made.”
