N.J. team ousts Cumberland from Eastern Regionals

BRISTOL, Conn. – The Cumberland Major Division (ages 11 and 12) All-Star softball team arrived at the end of the line on Thursday afternoon, the team’s magical run culminating in a 4-2 defeat to Robbinsville, N.J. in semifinal-round action of the Eastern Regionals at Breen Field.
The defeat closes Cumberland’s stay at the 10-team tournament, which featured teams from New England and the Mid-Atlantic, at 4-2. In its six games, Cumberland outscored its opponents by a 42-19 margin and outhit them, 49-24.

Johnston tops Bernon, repeats as Junior champs

PAWTUCKET — Northern Bernon's summer campaign ended at Pineview's Tomlinson Field on Thursday night, but there were no tears shed and a minimum amount of frowns cast after it dropped a 10-5 decision to Johnston.
Instead, skipper Ron Masse and his assistants chose to accentuate the positives following the championship game of the R.I. Little League Junior Division (13-14) Tournament.

City inks $6.5 million deal with Synagro

WOONSOCKET — Synagro Technologies Inc.’s plan for a $10 million heat-to-energy cogeneration facility took a giant leap forward yesterday after the Budget Commission approved a $6.5 million deal on taxes for the new construction.
The cash, to be parceled out over 20 years, isn’t the only perk in the works for the struggling city. There’s cheap electricity in the deal, too, and it’s “green,” to boot.

LINCOLN- Rita (Bourque) Gregoire, 92, of Lincoln, died July 24, 2012 in the Holiday Nursing Home, Manville. Her husband of 53 years, Armand J. Gregoire, died in 1993. Born in Woonsocket, Rita was the daughter of George and Delores (Desjarlais) Bourque.
Rita was a communicant at St. Ambrose Church, Albion.
