Navigant battles Senerchia for state title Sunday

WEST WARWICK — Navigant Credit Union Post 85 will try to become the first eighth seed in the state tournament in recent memory to capture a R.I. championship this afternoon when the Woonsocket-based squad clashes with fourth-seeded Senerchia Post 74 at McCarthy Stadium.
Navigant earned the right to play for the title on Saturday afternoon by posting a 6-2 victory over New England Frozen Lemonade/Shields Post 43 in the losers’ bracket finale back at the West Warwick complex.

WEST WARWICK --- If Navigant Credit Union plans to win the first state championship by a Woonsocket-based ballclub in 23 years, it will need to play some of its best baseball over these next 48 hours and produce three victories over the next two days.
Eighth-seeded Navigant’s marvelous drive through the state playoffs, which featured four straight wins and included victories over the tournament’s No. 1 and 3 seeds, hit a speed bump on Friday night in Post 85’s winners’ bracket final against fourth-seeded Senerchia Post 74 at McCarthy Field.

Burrillville PD makes arrests in break-ins

BURRILLVILLE — Police have made arrests related to 10 house breaks in town within the past two months.
Police have also made an arrest in the armed robbery of the 24-hour Sunoco gas station at 174 Chapel St., according to Major Lareto Guglietta.
On May 23, just after 4:40 a.m., the cashier on duty reported to police that a suspect pointed a weapon at him, demanded money and threatened to shoot him. The cashier complied and handed over $285 in cash. The suspect then fled on foot, according to Guglietta.

City vows to keep defending the cross monument
