PAWTUCKET â Augusto Rojas and the Pawtucket Red Sox got everything they could ask for and more from their inaugural PawSox 5K Race/Walk at McCoy Stadium.

In a thrilling conclusion that had the fans scattered along the stadiumâs lower box seats cheering wildly, Geoff Nelson survived a frantic sprint with Nathan Petesch around the warning track by nipping him at the finish line near the PawSoxâs dugout by less than a second.
LINCOLN â John Gregory, CEO of the Northern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce, was recently invited to continue to serve as a member of the Chamber of Commerce Committee for the 2012-2013 year.
WOONSOCKET â Michael Moniz, whoâs running for a seat in the state legislature, has moved out of House District 49, which he intends to represent.
Moniz moved from St. Germain Manor on East School Street to Crepeau Court on Front Street â both publicly-managed high-rises â on July 9, according to Robert Kulik, director of the Woonsocket Housing Authority.
Kulik said Moniz relocated because the housing authority is converting a portion of St. Germain Manor in which he lived to assisted living.

WOONSOCKET â When Sarah Rose Beaudoin was attending art school in Boston, her artistic pursuits included ceramics and stained glass design.
It wasn't until a couple of years after her four-year education at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts that she discovered her true artistic calling: giving vintage pieces of furniture new life.
WOONSOCKET â The state-appointed Budget Commission in charge of city affairs has begun work on lowering the city's healthcare costs with closed-door meetings with officials from the city's labor unions.
A preliminary session of that effort was held Thursday in the City Council's second-floor conference room after the commission concluded its weekly public session upstairs in Historic Harris Hall.
PROVIDENCE â Gov. Lincoln Chafee, a former Republican turned Independent, will get a speaking spot at next weekâs Democratic National Convention.
âI am honored to be attending the 2012 Democratic National Convention,â Chafee said in a written statement. âPresident Obama has been a friend to Rhode Island, his policies have brought valuable benefits to the people of our state during historically difficult times, and I am proud to explain to the convention audience why I â a former Republican â and lots of people like me are supporting the Presidentâs re-election.â
WOONSOCKET â A picturesque Victorian in the Globe section will become a new shelter for homeless male war veterans this fall.
Listed on the National and Rhode Island Registers of Historic Places as the Himes Getchell House, the 2œ-story dwelling at 492 South Main St. was built in 1875 and will be rechristened the Ballou Harris House when it opens this fall, said Frank DiMaio of the Fogarty Center in North Providence.
