WOONSOCKET â€“ An unidentified city woman was injured when a fire broke out in the kitchen of her 50 Jackson St. apartment building just before 3 p.m. Wednesday.
Deputy Fire Chief Paul Russell said the woman suffered minor burns and was transported to the hospital by rescue for treatment.
A teenager living in the apartment building also suffered an ankle injury escaping the fire and Russell said a city firefighter was injured in the effort to knock down the blaze.
â€śIt was a kitchen fire on second floor with extension of the fire into the third floor,â€ť Russell said at the scene.
WOONSOCKET â€“ Jim Walker is neatly dressed, well-groomed and articulate. He's also homeless.
The 51-year-old Bellingham native says he got that way after he was laid off from his job as a car salesman and his unemployment benefits ran out.
WOONSOCKET- Raymond T. Renaud, Sr., 68, of Woonsocket died Tuesday in Providence.
Born in Springfield, Ill., he was a son of the late Emile and Arline (Lovegrove) Renaud. He was a lifelong resident of Woonsocket.
Mr. Renaud served in the Navy during the early 1960s.
He was employed by General Dynamics for over 20 years before retiring.
Raymond was a member of the American Legion Post 62 in Woonsocket.
NORTH SMITHFIELD- Loretta (Houle) Plante, 81, of Mendon Road, formerly of Old Smithfield Road, went to her eternal rest on Monday, March 12, 2012. She was the wife of the late Gerard Plante.
Born in Woonsocket, Loretta was the daughter of the late Herve and Opalma (Fontaine) Houle.
Having worked her early years in various factories in the area, Mrs. Plante was employed at Crest Manufacturing, in Lincoln, for forty years as a bench worker.
PROVIDENCE â€“ No matter how the Woonsocket School Committee votes tonight, state officials say they are not going to allow the city to end its school year in April.
Gov. Lincoln Chafee called that idea â€śa non-starter,â€ť adding that it is â€śjust inconceivableâ€ť that the last two and a half months of the school year could get lopped off the education calendar.
Several officials pointed to a provision in state law saying that the commissioner of education would have to give the school department a waiver from the requirement that schools be in session 180 days a school year.
BURRILLVILLE â€” Shortly after head coach Katie Dutch had shot a few team photos Monday afternoon, members of the Burrillville High varsity cheerleading squad sat near the mid-court stripe of the school's domed gymnasium doing what most girls revel in â€“ joking around, talking about boys, etc.
Senior Morgan Ferschke, however, reflected upon a truly stellar season, one which culminated in the capture of the R.I. Cheerleading Coaches Association's Non-League Varsity Division state championship, that achieved on Sunday, March 4 at Portsmouth High School.
OHIO- Carl Renaud, age 57, of Summit Rd. in South West, Pataskala, Ohio, formerly of Woonsocket, died, Saturday March 10, 2012. He was the beloved husband of Roberta (Andrews) Renaud.
Born in Woonsocket, son of the late Philip S. and Jeannette (Fichesser) Renaud.
Carl worked as a Commercial manager of Auto Zone in Ohio, for several years. He also was the former Owner of British Parts Locator in Cumberland, for several years.
WOONSOCKET- Florida Brodeur 95, formerly of Mt. St. Charles Ave. in Woonsocket died Monday at Wingate in Kingston, MA. She was the wife of the late Arthur Brodeur.
Mrs. Brodeur was born in Lowell, MA, a daughter of the late Albert and Genevieve (Rainville) Bernier.
She worked for the former Uni-Royal Co. for twenty years and Miller Electric Co. for a year before retiring n 1978. She was a former member of the Mt. St. Charles Mothers Club, St. Agatha's Sr. Citizens, and Les Canado Americain.
Edgar J. Lavoie
LINWOOD, MA- Edgar J. Lavoie, 86, of Linwood, MA died Monday March 12, 2012 in Milford Regional Medical Center.
He was the husband of Maria T. (Cormier) Lavoie and father to 12 children.
Funeral services will be held Sat. March 17, 2012 at 10 AM from the Buma Funeral Home, 101 N. Main St., Rte 122, Uxbridge, MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in St. Mary's Church, Mendon St., Rte. 16, Uxbridge. Valerie B. Tellier
BURRILLVILLE- Valerie B. (Manteau) Tellier, 99, died Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at Bayberry Commons, Pascoag. She was the wife of the late J. Oliver Tellier.
Born in Harrisville, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Bernadette (Clapprood) Manteau.
Valerie worked as a Kitchen/Dietary Aide at Zambarano Hospital of Pascoag for many years.
