WESTFIELD, Mass. â Lee Vazquez is the âLittle Big Manâ of the Westfield State University menâs basketball team.
Standing at only 5-foot-6, the explosive point guard and former Woonsocket High standout is ranked 18th nationally in the NCAA Division III ranks in scoring, averaging 21.3 points per game. He has been putting up some big numbers this season, scoring more than 30 points in six games, including a career-high 41 vs. Worcester State.

WARWICK â The fifth time was the charm.
Ryan Berardâs unassisted goal -- a seemingly harmless pass from behind the net that deflected off the skate of a La Salle defenseman and past the goalie -- with 2:38 to go in the game snapped a 2-2 tie and helped Mount St. Charles nab a huge 4-2 victory over the Rams at Thayer Arena.
Brian Campbellâs goal off a pass from Brian Belisle with 1:53 left sealed the deal and allowed the Mounties (11-5) to yank a huge monkey off their backs and beat the Rams (10-5-1) for the first time in five meetings this season.
PROVIDENCE â Ed Cooley claims had no idea that Wednesdayâs loss at Cincinnati resulted in his Providence Friars dipping below .500 for the first time this season.
âTo be honest with you, I didnât even know that,â Cooley said after this reporter informed him of the news Friday, one day before PC welcomes 10th-ranked Georgetown to The Dunk Saturday night. In the same breath Cooley added, âIf you worry about your record, then youâre not concentrating on the right things.â

Kristen Dubois thought she was passing a kidney stone.
She wasnât.
She was giving birth in the bathroom of her fianceâs Willow Street apartment in Woonsocket.
âI was like, âOh my God. I canât believe it,â says Dubois. âI started yelling for my boyfriend. âHeâs coming out! Heâs coming out!ââ

WOONSOCKET- Edward Lavoie of 13 Watson St., passed away February 12, 2012 after a five year, three month battle with pancreatic cancer at St. Antoine. Ed lost his wife of 59 years in 2009.
Ed worked for Draper Corp. and Jannell Truck Body he retired from CVS.
Ed loved John Wayne movies, The Yankee's and fishing with his son Jim.
Ed is survived by his daughter Kathleen and his son Jim.
He will be missed by all that knew him.
His Funeral will be held Saturday, February 25th at 10:00 AM at Precious Blood Church

WOONSOCKET --- Joe Gardner is going back to the future.
No, heâs not going to jump in a DeLorean with Doc Brown and head back to 1955, but the Woonsocket Boxing Club boxer is going to go back to 2002 and â03 and return to the weight class he fought in during those first two years of his career.
After absorbing stoppages in all three of his fights as a light heavyweight last year, Gardner will storm into 2012 as a super middleweight, where he posted a 4-0-1 record before taking a 7œ-year sabbatical from the sport.
LINCOLN â Thereâs no room for confusion or interpretation when youâre that sure about something. Make no mistake: Nick Zammarelliâs mind is already made up regarding where he wants to play college baseball.
A junior at Lincoln High, Zammarelli recently announced his intention to attend Division I Elon University, located in North Carolina. To issue a verbal that signifies the acceptance of an athletic scholarship package long before Zammarelli is even eligible to sign a national letter of intent speaks volumes of just how comfortable the player is with the school and vice versa.

UXBRIDGE- Andrea Z. (Gateriewictz) O'Toole, 68, of 292 Blackstone St. died Mon. Feb. 13 at home surrounded by her family, after battling lung cancer for a second time.
