SMITHFIELD â Mount St. Charles played what coach Dave Belisle termed a âclean gameâ on Saturday night during a 6-0 victory over Smithfield.
The Mounties outshot the Sentinels 45-15 and got three goals from Nicholas Bennett. Brian Belisle, Callan Morisseau and Devin Votta also tallied for Mount, which takes a 10-5 record into Friday nightâs crucial Division I game with La Salle Academy (10-4-1). The game is set for 6:30 p.m. at Thayer Arena.

PROVIDENCE â Precision, particularly in the short sprints, is often crucial in the outcome. One minor glitch at the beginning could determine who walks away with the gold and who settles for the silver.
Woonsocket High junior Jalen Evans, the top seed in the 55-meter dash at Saturdayâs Class A Championship, found that out the hard way inside the Providence Career and Technical Academy field house.
âI never got the top speed and my start was awful,â said Evans, after finishing second in the dash with a time of 6.5 seconds. âIn the middle of the race, I just lost it.â
PROVIDENCE â Shaun Noriega was in the game for South Florida for one reason alone â to hit 3-point shots.
For someone who played exactly one minute, Noriega made a lasting impact in USFâs 55-48 win against a Providence College outfit that as head coach Ed Cooley noted âdoesnât have the basketball gods on our side.â A junior who entering Saturday had hoisted up 64 shots on the season with 51 of them coming from beyond the arc, Noriega delivered a pair of clutch makes from downtown that propelled the visiting Bulls to their eighth Big East win.
WOONSOCKET --- As expected, Mount St. Charles breezed past Lincoln on Friday night at Adelard Arena by rattling off five goals in the second period to break open a close game and pave the way for an 8-0 victory.
But the story of the night was Chris Leclaire, the Lionsâ freshman goalie, who turned away an astounding 72 shots, the most saves in a game by a netminder in this state in recent memory. Leclaire currently leads all Division I goalies in saves with 390.
LINCOLN â After over two decades of patrolling the streets of the town's seven villages, managing the training of officers and acting as the Lincoln Police Department's public information officer, Capt. Raymond Bousquet III has chosen to retire.
Friday was his final day in an LPD uniform. He now will direct his energies toward a new career in the banking industry in Boston.
In vintage Bousquet fashion, he stated, âThis is not a sudden decision. I'm moving on, and it's time. The timing is right for me and my family. That's it.â
PROVIDENCE â State Commissioner of Education Deborah Gist had words of both praise and caution on the latest round of New England Common Assessment Program (NECAP) testing on Friday.
Gist's praise included high marks for charter schools in Cumberland, Pawtucket, Providence and Woonsocket and also a special nod to the students and staff of Central Falls High School for raising its four-year graduation rate by 17 points and Woonsocket High School for its improvement in reading.

PROVIDENCE â For those associated with Providence College basketball, the importance of keeping a stiff upper lip or oneâs chin high cannot be underscored. After all, itâs not time to pack away the jerseys just yet.
CUMBERLAND â Two nights earlier, the wrestlers from Cumberland High knocked off previously undefeated Bishop Hendricken, the friendly confides of the Wellness Center serving as the backdrop. Hoping to replicate some of that home cooking, the Cumberland boysâ hoops team played host to state contender North Providence on Friday night.
WOONSOCKET â For the first half of Fridayâs Division I clash with Woonsocket, winless Cumberland looked nothing like a team that has lost 14 straight league encounters.
The Clippers didnât looked like it in the second half either, but the Villa Novans were not about to let them walk off their court with their first âWâ.
Woonsocket picked up its defensive intensity and had a strong second half from Katie Marcoux to pave the way for a 49-34 triumph at Savaria Gymnasium.
Lena Muratori
NORTH SMITHFIELD- Lena Muratori 82 resident of North Smithfield passed away February 9, 2012 at the Overlook Nursing Home in Pascoag.
She was the loving wife to the late Dante Muratori.
She was born February 21, 1929 in Woonsocket RI, a daughter to the late Luigi & Luigia (Tomasetti) Secchiaroli.
Lena worked for the former Big Joe's Supermarket where she decorated cakes. She was a resident of North Smithfield previously she lived in Florida. She was a loving homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother.
