WOONSOCKET - Louise A. Laprade, 65, of Diamond Hill Rd, died peacefully Wednesday December 28, 2011, at home with her family by her side. She was the wife of Robert M. Laprade. Robert and Louise, were married on September 30, 1967 in Precious Blood Church, they celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary on September 30, 2011.
Born in Providence, she was the daughter, of the late Roger and Stephanie (Sally) (Zadroga) Houle.
Prior to retiring Louise worked as an activities director at the former Evergreen Nursing Home, on Greene St. in Woonsocket.
WOONSOCKET - Michael "Mike" W. Demrest, 42, passed away suddenly on January 1, 2012 at his home.
He was born in Milford, MA on April 10, 1969. He was the son the late William Demrest Sr. and the late Joyce Lussier. He was a Woonsocket resident most of his life.
NORTH SMITHFIELD - William Joseph Figuerido Sr., 81, of North Smithfield, passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2012, at the Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket.
He was born May 7, 1930 in Millville, MA, son of the late William and Frances (Sacco) Figuerido.
BLACKSTONE - Paul F. Moran Sr. 80, resident of Blackstone MA, died surrounded by his loving family on December 30, 2011 in Upton MA. He was the husband of nineteen years to the late Anita (Carusso) Moran and 14 years to the late Doris (Doura) Moran.
He was born on June 15, 1931 in Waltham MA, a son to the late John F. Sr. & Margaret (Martin) Moran.
Paul was a machinist who worked at many machine shops throughout his life.
He managed Volpe Tool & Die in Milford, for 20 years and then retired. He volunteered his time to the Blackstone Valley Senior Center.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) â€” Mitt Romney eked out a minuscule 8-vote victory over Rick Santorum in Iowa's Republican presidential caucuses, the state party chairman said early Wednesday, ringing down the curtain on an improbable first act in the campaign to pick a challenger to President Barack Obama in the fall.
Appearing hours after the caucuses had ended, Matt Strawn said Romney had 30,015 votes, to 30,007 for Santorum, whose late surge carried him to a near win.

PROVIDENCE â€“ When provisions for reforming locally-administered pension plans (called non-MERS) were dropped from the comprehensive pension reform late in the process last year, Gov. Lincoln Chafee vowed to introduce legislation on the first day of the 2012 General Assembly session to reform struggling plans that are causing fiscal misery for certain cities and towns.
He missed that self-imposed deadline on Tuesday.
WOONSOCKET â€” On December 31, 2011, delinquent notices were mailed for water, sewer, and trash ratepayers with regard to the scheduled sale of water, sewer, and lien sales to be conducted in March. It has come to our attention that certain ratepayers received these notices erroneously. Upon review, it has been found that the mailing occurred due to an error in the data used by the outside vendor that the city utilizes for these mailings. The City of Woonsocket regrets and apologizes for any inconvenience that the mailing may have caused.
WOONSOCKET â€“ Boston-based Steward Health Care System has hired a prominent government lobbyist for assistance in dealing with state regulators handling its application to buy financially struggling Landmark Medical Center.
Former Warwick Mayor Joseph Walsh of Government Strategies Inc. has already asked some legislators to rally constituents in support of the merger, which may be the Cass Avenue hospitalâ€™s only hope for survival.
Robert P. Ross
HOLLY HILL FL- Robert P. Ross, 74 of Holly Hill Fl and formerly of Woonsocket R.I. passed peacefully December 30, 2011 with his family by his side.
He was born in Manville R.I. on August 20, 1937. He is survived by the love of his life for 53 wonderful years Dorothy whom he met at the YMCA dances. Dorothy will always cherish their times and memories together.
He was predeceased by his parents Paul and Germaine (St. Germain) Ross.
