December 12, 2012

WOONSOCKET — Say so long to the blues — blue trash carts, that is.
The familiar 64-gallon bins will begin disappearing from sidewalks after next week’s trash collection rounds begin on Monday. Their burgundy and green companion bins will be left behind as the longstanding trio of the city’s waste pickup formula is broken up for good.
Deemed obsolete in the age of single-stream recycling, the blue bins — an estimated 10,300 of them in all — have been sold off to the neighboring town of Cumberland for $14 each.
