Car drives onto frozen Cass Pond

WOONSOCKET — A city woman’s morning traffic mishap landed her stranded in her car on frozen Cass Pond Friday morning and also the target of a rescue by a Woonsocket High School student.
Witnesses saw the car operated by Viengxay Kmon crash through a guardrail near the merge of Elm Street and Cass Avenue at about 7:56 a.m. and then roll down an embankment out onto the ice of the pond nearby Woonsocket High School.

Sprinkler line breaks at City Hall

WOONSOCKET – The building problems at City Hall continued on Saturday when a sprinkler system line broke in a little used space of the building and caused a small water problem, according to fire officials.
City Hall and the connected historic Harris Hall building at 169 Main St. lost their main heating system last week and were being kept warm by isolated electric heating systems and space heaters where possible. The problem turned serious by midweek as area temperatures dropped below 20 degrees and raised the specter of frozen water pipes.

BLACKSTONE — Town cable access technician and operator Paul Jacob says it's now easier than ever to stay informed when it comes to municipal government proceedings in Blackstone.
The town has unveiled a new streaming and on-demand video service that is operational on the Blackstone municipal government web site at www.townofblackstone.org.

Police charge two WHS students with marijuana possession

WOONSOCKET – Police arrested two Woonsocket High School students on charges of possession of marijuana after investigating a report of smoking in a bathroom of the nearby Woonsocket Area Career and Technical Center on Thursday.
Nicholas Caterino, 18, was charged with possession of marijuana, a first offense, after Patrolman Michael Theroux, a police department school resource officer, found him in possession of a bag of marijuana and a bong during an investigation of the incident at the school, according to police.

Town mailing out census forms

BELLINGHAM — Town Clerk Ann L. Odabashian says the 2013 town census is beginning and census forms are being mailed to the 6,000 households in Bellingham beginning this month.
In most cases, verification of current information is all that will be needed. Simple instructions are included for making any changes, corrections, additions or deletions. If any resident does not receive a form or has any questions, they are asked to contact the Town Clerk’s office at (508) 657-2830.
