For PC's Cooley, there’s a method to ‘Late Night Madness’

PROVIDENCE – On a campus where the men’s basketball program serves as a valuable gateway for public attention, nights like the one that took place at Providence College Friday are held in high esteem, not only by students, but the community at large.

With much fanfare, head coach Ed Cooley, his assistants and players rolled out the Black & White carpet for “Late Night Madness” festivities at Alumni Hall.

IWC to celebrate 85 years of service to community

WOONSOCKET – The Italian Workingmen’s Club’s longtime commitment to helping out in the local community will be honored during a celebration of the private social organization’s 85th anniversary on Sunday.

Club President Marc Zagaglia said the anniversary celebration will begin in the club’s upstairs function room at 1 p.m. and include remarks by club members, city officials, and members of the city’s General Assembly delegation and possibly even U.S. Rep. David Cicilline, depending upon his Washington schedule.

Holiday festivities Dec. 11 to cap off city’s birthday party

WOONSOCKET – As promised, Albert G. Beauparlant has come up with a fitting final bash for the city’s 125th anniversary celebration, and also the people he wants to carry it out.

During an informal kickoff for the project at the Woonsocket Harris Public Library Friday afternoon, Beauparlant handed the reins for the upcoming Dec. 11 event to Call Publisher Mary Lynn Bosiak and co-chair Erik Cartier, or, actually, a flag.

Judge deals Pleau life, no parole

WOONSOCKET — The last chapter in the high-profile and emotional story of a killer at the center of a constitutional battle over the death penalty was written in U.S. District Court yesterday as Jason W. Pleau was sentenced to life in prison, without the possibility of parole.

NORTH SMITHFIELD- Rita Gilbert "Jill" (St. Jean) Laliberte, of 10 Rhodes Ave., died Thursday October 24, 2013. She was the wife of the late Joseph Conrad Laliberte.
Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Hector and Yvonne (Legare) St. Jean and sister of the late Violet D. Kemp.

BURRILLVILLE- Rosalie R. (Wahl) Gagnon, 91, of Pascoag, died peacefully after a short illness, Oct. 24, 2013 in the Home & Hospice Care Center, Providence. She was the wife of the late George O. Gagnon, and daughter of the late John and Cecilia (Thomann) Wahl.
Born in Bellingham, MA, she spent most of her younger life with her grandparents, Mr & Mrs Emil Thomann; she also met her husband, George, there. Living most of her married life in Burrillville, George & Rosalie were married 68 years.
